This tour will take you to discover the lovely Salento towns of Gallipoli and Galatina starting from Lecce and crossing the peninsula among typical villages and vineyards, also stopping, as an optional choice, in one of the most important Salento wineries for a tasting experience. There will be no shortage of halts along the Ionian coast for fully enjoying the breathtaking views that will await you. The journey will go on heading to a wonderful beach where you can swim before the visit among narrow alleys, shops and sea views of which Gallipoli will surprise you.

In the case you’ll choose not to attend the wine tasting, or depending on the cellar unavailability, like on Sundays, we'll spend more time in the place you'll prefer or we’ll stop in Nardò to visit its nice historic center.

What To Expect

Centro storico di Galatina

Transfer from Lecce to Galatina 30 minutes. We’ll stop close to the main square where you can have your independent visit to the Baroque church of “San Pietro”. Nearby, the small chapel of “San Paolo” hosts a well that, according to tradition, was able to heal people bitten by poisonous tarantula spider. That's why the town is renowned for the magic and esoteric ceremonies of "Tarantismo", from which the local folk dance “Pizzica” started. Galatina is also well known for the delicious pastries produced for generations in the local pasticcerie. In the most famous one you can delight yourself by tasting the famous "Pasticciotto”.

Basilica di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria

Walking along Galatina old town you can find out several aristocratic palaces until reaching the late Romanesque Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, built in 1390. The interior contains frescoes by artists from "Giotto school", that make the church the second in Italy, after San Francesco d'Assisi Basilica, for its pictorial cycles.

My partner and friend and I thought Bob was great! He spent time to ensure the itinerary suited our needs and was really flexible when we kept changing things around. He provided informative commentary on the history of the areas we visited and we enjoyed his company on the days we travelled with Bob. ( We ended up booking Bob for two day trips). Bob helped me find a lovely restaurant for our lunch each time and even brought fruit for us to snack on the second day which was lovely. Bravo Roberto!

We had a wonderful tour with Bob and his wife, Sandra. Our tour included a stop in Nardò, a wine tasting at a lovely local winery, some time at the beach in Rivabella, and ended with time to explore Gallipoli. The day was perfectly paced — never rushed — and we felt like we got a great taste of each area we visited. Bob shared some local history, helpful maps and even helped us practice our Italian a bit. We only wish we had more time in Salento to do another tour with Bob. Highly recommend! Grazie mille, Bob and Sandra!

We had a fantastic tour with Bob and Sandra. We started off with a walk around the town of Nardo and then headed to Gallipolli, via the Coppola vineyard where we had a great tour of the winery followed by a tasting of five wines and a lunch of cold meats and cheeses. Following lunch, we headed for a lovely beach and spent time there before finishing the tour with a lovely afternoon walking round Gallipoli. We both really enjoyed the day and would recommend it as a great way to see this part of Itlay. The vineyard was in a stunning setting.

Roberto and his wife, Sandra picked us up at our hotel and took us For a lovely day of sightseeing. They are both from Lecce, so they’re very familiar with the best places to see. Gallipoli was breathtaking. We followed that with a a trip to the beach. They are very special and will make your trip memorable.

Bob was wonderful. He was really great about communicating before the trip making sure we got to see what we wanted. There are so many sights to see in Galapoli and Galatina. I highly recommend.
