Garni Pagan Temple is a masterpiece of classical Hellenistic architecture, built by Armenian king Tirdates 1-st in 1-st century AD. Here Armenian sun god Mihr was worshiped two thousand years ago.
Your next destination will be Geghard Monastery, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. The complex is partrly carved in a giant basalt rock. The name Geghard is translated from old Armenian as “spear”. The famous spear which pierced Jesus Christ has been kept here for 5 centuries.
Visit the 9-th century Monastery of Sevanavank on top of a rock, on Sevan peninsula. It used to be an island before early 20-th century.

The Monastery of Geghard
Named after the holy lance that pierced Christ’s side at the crucifixion, this World Heritage–listed monastery is carved out of the rock face of the Azat River Gorge. Legend has it as founded in the 4th century and its oldest surviving chapel dates back to the 12th century. The hugely atmospheric Surp Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God Church) dates from 1215 and features wonderful carvings; its adjoining gavit (vestibule) with its nine arches was built between 1215 and 1225.

5.00Armenia is a beautiful country with full of rich history and beautiful landscapes. We have visited all we have planned and for this thanks to Skyline Tours for organizing the fantastic trip in Armenia. Our local driver + guide Tigran was very friendly and took us to beautiful spots, including the nice restaurants. He should be recommended for an award!
