Luss
Leaving the Port we will drive for just under 1 hour crossing over the Erskine bridge and passing through the historic town of Dumbarton where your guide will point out Dumbarton Castle. William Wallace was betrayed in 1305 by Sir John Menteith who imprisoned Wallace at Dumbarton Castle before handing him over to the English. Our first stop on the tour will be the beautiful conservation village of Luss situated on the banks of Loch Lomond. You will have some time to take in the small village and wander down to the Loch and take in some of the best views found in the area. Your guide will tell you about Luss Parish Church built on the grounds of the ancient cemetery that dates back to the 7th century and even has a Viking Hogback grave stone estimated to be from the 11th century. The village was also the setting for a local TV series called Take the High Road. The Grade B listed cottages which give the village its character were left over from the workers of local slate quarries.
Rest and be Thankful
Leaving Luss we will have a 30-minute drive to our next stop passing through the village of Arrochar along Loch Long and into Glencroe. At the top of the Glen, we will make a photo stop and take in the views from the rest and be thankful car park which was given its name by soldiers who built the original military road in 1773 and inscribed a stone that still sits there to this day.

We very much enjoyed our day in the Scottish highlands with Marco. It was a very rainy day, common in Scotland as I understand, but we made the best of it and saw as much as possible. Marco was a wealth of knowledge and the history of the various families and clashes over the years. We were able to see a lot of history, beautiful sights, a nice lunch at the George Hotel and highly recommend this tour.

The entire trip was a truly wonderful experience. Marco our driver was great - very informative and customized our trip based on things we wanted to see. All of us enjoyed our time with Marco (kids and adults). Also I was very impressed with John who coordinated our visit - set up a basic outline for our day which we customized, and kept me informed and worked through the details so we quickly found Marco and got our tour off to a great start. No issues on the return as we were back at the dock with time to easily board the cruise ship.

Outstanding private (shared with 5 others from our cruise) excursion from start to finish! When first booking John was outstanding to help me through the process of adding more guests, making sure our interests were well understood, and communicating with excellence right up to the day of our tour. Our guide Marco was so considerate and made sure we had an exceptional introduction to the Highlands of Scotland. He went out of his way in our search for Hairy Coos 😍 Will book with MacLeod Hellan Tours again and highly recommend them to our friends!
