Moke Lake
Your Glenorchy day trip begins with a tranquil detour to Moke Lake — a hidden gem just outside Queenstown. Surrounded by rolling hills and dramatic peaks, this quiet alpine lake offers stunning mirror-like reflections on calm days. It’s the perfect spot to stretch your legs, soak in the scenery, and enjoy a peaceful moment before heading deeper into the wilderness toward Glenorchy. Whether you're after a quick photo stop or a short walk by the water, we tailor the time here to suit your pace.
OPTIONAL: If you're up for a short adventure, Bob’s Cove is a fantastic optional stop. This easy 30–60 minute return walk leads you through native bush to a quiet bay with emerald waters and a jetty — perfect for photos or a quick dip in summer. For those wanting a little more, a short uphill track offers panoramic views over Lake Wakatipu. A refreshing and flexible stop, if time and interest allow.

Jay did a great job taking us to see various interesting spots along the way to Glenorchy. It was an impromptu booking and he was very flexible in tour starting time, #of participants, and places to stop etc. Jay really went out of his way to make sure we had a great tour.

Jay made our trip to Glenorchy very enjoyable. He offered suggestions and was flexible. He was very friendly and eager to please. He was knowledgeable about the area and its history. To top that, he recommended a great burger place in Queenstown and told us to skip the line by ordering takeout! All in all it was a very memorable trip. I recommend his company highly.

We had the most amazing day with Jay as he gave us a tour through Glenorchy. He was great at communicating before the trip and picked the 4 of us up promptly at our Airbnb in Queenstown. Jay selected perfect spots to stop and take photos and take in the beautiful scenery. He is very knowledgeable about the Lord of the Rings and where scenes were filmed in the area and about the history and landscape of the area. He suggested a lovely little place for lunch - Mr Glen’s Taphouse- to take a break. We took our time exploring with him and got out to see the beautiful sights at his suggestion as well as at our request. We had a relaxing day laughing and chatting with him about New Zealand since it was our first time to the country. He was extremely accommodating and easy going. At the end of the day he was gracious enough to drop us off in the downtown of Queenstown to a spot where we wanted to listen to music. We would definitely take another tour with Jay if we are lucky enough to make it back to New Zealand! He even shared with us his experience seeing the southern lights and shared his beautiful photos.
