What an incredible experience. Def felt safe snorkelling (as a non swimmer). Very professional and attentive crew members/divers made sure our safety was number one priority. Very much a once in a lifetime experience.

It was very choppy the day we went but generally I think snorkeling does not offer as good an experience as scuba diving. I recommend either getting certified before you go or plan to sign up for beginner dive group.

I have to say that I was extremely disappointed in the intro dive portion of the trip. I specifically added that because reviews said that they were patient with people who were nervous… I found it to be quite the opposite. On top of the process feeling rushed (we were in the water for a total of maybe 3 minutes before plunging in), I got stuck in a group with two people who had already gone, so it felt as though the other two of us were being pushed to get on with it. I know of others who went in that felt uncomfortable with the pace at which it went. I instantly swallowed a bunch of water and instead of checking if I was okay, I was kind of just shoved out, and the instructor seemed annoyed. It’s unfortunate, because at first I felt really comfortable with the instructor. The snorkeling portion was decent, and the food was alright but not enough for everyone to be full from. Unfortunately, I can’t say that I’d recommend this tour.

The dive excursion was not on par with most other places around the globe from my many diving experiences. The biggest negative was the money grab from the tour operator, Divers Den. It wasn’t clearly spelled out on the Viator excursion booking but there are additional fees if you plan to dive with a guide. The dive guide seemed more focused on herding everyone through each dive as quickly as possible rather than identifying interesting things along the way. It was rushed and both of my dives ended with more than 1,100 psi of air in my tank that started with 2,000 psi. At the end of the trip you can expect to encounter aggressive attempts to pay for unauthorized photos of your dive at exorbitant prices…so if you want photos bring your own camera. Overall the experience was well below my expectations. If you’re planning a diving excursion to the Great Barrier Reef out of Cairns, my strong advice is the search for a much better tour operator than Divers Den.

Excellent tour. One of the coolest experiences ever. The reef is amazing as were the crew. Everyone needs to do this at least once in their lives. My favorite was the huge parrot fish. You can actually hear them biting food off of the reef.
