The canyon is about 3 miles long with an elevation increase of over 1000 ft. The hike requires scrambling over huge boulders, pools of water and scaling steep ridges strewn with crumbling rock. At the higher elevations there are beautiful views to the ocean across Puerto Escondido.

Beautiful sunrise and canyon. Very challenging course—we are experienced hikers but it was still a lot of bouldering and scrabbling—glad we brought our hiking boots. Lino our guide was terrific—helped us navigate through the rocks and told us about the plants and some of the human history of the area.

Jan 13 we were picked up at 6:30am so that we could see the sun rise at a beautiful view spot 5 minutes away from the Tabor Canyon entrance. A great start to the day! Seven adventurers, a guide and driver took us through a very dry canyon (at this time) with boulders so huge, there were times we had to use ropes to hoist ourselves up to the next level. It was truly a workout but very fun! Beautiful scenery along the way. If you think you can’t do it, you probably can….but should you decide partway to sit and wait it out, that’s possible too. We come down the same way as going up, so no pressure to complete it ( and this excursion was not expensive, so challenge yourself)! So glad we did it! Our guide and driver were great.

The hike was stunning. Beautiful scenery, fauna and flora. My wife and I were lucky to have a very personable and knowledgeable guide. Although my wife and I are experienced hikers we were happy in hindsight that we hired a guide. Local knowledge of the area is worth every cent of admission ($225 for a group of 4. Includes park admission pass). Carlos was amazing.

It was cancelled by the tour operator and I was not refunded. That was frustrating and a waste of my time.

Carlos was a fantastic guide! Very knowledgeable and encouraging, low key and very much a go-with-the-flow sorta guy. The hike itself was challenging and fun with wonderful geology and scenery along the way. Make sure you possess good balance and wear shoes that have some grip to them. Lots of rock-hopping; if you have slick soles, it'll make for a difficult trip. There are a few places that are best navigated by sliding on your butt over rocks ... might want to ditch the Speedo's for something a bit more rugged.

Had a wonderful morning hike up the canyon. Our guide was knowable of the plants and wildlife and, as I am a geologist, he was very interested in learning about the rocks. I don't recommend for those with youngsters as there are difficult climbing points where somewhat sketchy ropes have to be fully relied upon. (I would place more dependable anchor points and ladders in those places..) We didn't make the entire hike to see the ancient pictographs as two others on our hike needed to make an appointment for whale watching. I can recommend this hike to the fit and agile.

Very strenuous bring bouldering shoes and a helmet rock climbing experience needed. The climbing ropes are old and frayed an accident waiting to happen. The guide Santos is Amazing like a mountain goat and knows every rock helping all the way. No one with hip or knee surgery should be on this hike.

Our guide Santos was wonderful! I wouldn’t call this a hike, more like bouldering. We climbed over huge boulders. Santos was aways nearby to lend a hand or a word of encouragement. One of my favorite hikes! If you like adventure, a little challenge and fun- this is the right excursion!
