This trip will take you on one of Norway’s most popular and spectacular hikes. It is for good reason that this hike has gained its popularity with visitors to Norway and locals alike. Situated only a few hours from Stavanger, Pulpit Rock - or Preikestolen in Norwegian - is a towering cliff-plateau directly suspended over Lysefjorden. To stand (or sit) so close to the edge is probably the moment that hikers look forward to the most, although it is no easy deed. The top offers unobstructed views over the meandering blue fjord that was formed by the glaciers during the last Ice Age, making it a good spot to enjoy a photo session and possibly a light snack.

The actual day went very well. The guide was on time and he was super friendly, he picked us up from our rental apartment. The company have equipment to borrow should you need it. We booked with them as we needed the transport there and use of crampons incase of ice. The guide was a lovely local man who was really easy to get on with, and he provided us with some interesting facts about the area which was really nice. The hike itself wasn't too difficult and not very long, but was really icy so we were glad we had booked a guided trip for this. The weather held out and we had amazing views once up at pulpit rock and we had it to ourselves! The company itself were not great at communication which was a bit frustrating. We were hoping for a confirmation at least the day before (at the least because it was forecast gale force winds and heavy rain so we were doubtful it was even going to go ahead. We tried emailing twice, and calling and got no response). Viator were great with trying to get communication from them, and we did get confirmation in the end, but don't expect anything from the tour company!

Amazing place to visit in Stavanger. Breathtaking iconic landscape. The hike is somehow tough but definitely is worth.

  • Bucket list item, fun not difficult hike!

Where do I start, the trip was breathtaking. The tour picks you up right before the call time as advertised. You won’t hear anything the day before until pickup so be ready. I went with a group of 3 people and it was so much fun. The tour guide led us through a different less crowded route, definitely a bucket list item. The hike was not difficult at all, I was nervous as I’m not in the best shape but it goes up and down so you get good breaks.
