Kiruna is located in an ideal position in Lapland to view the northern lights. During winter we have long dark nights and even 6 weeks without a sunrise! The first step to chasing the aurora is to get away from the city light pollution and that's exactly what we do on this tour.
Our skilled guides will study the aurora and weather forecast to find the best locations based on their prior knowledge of the area, and then off we go! In our minivan, we will drive up to 125km away from the city if necessary to chase the aurora out in the arctic wilderness.
There are many different locations we can visit depending on the forecast, one of which is the beautiful Abisko National Park area. Of course, it is up to mother nature where the chase will take us, but our guides will do their best to help you search for this incredible natural phenomenon

On the night of February 15, 2025, we purchased an expensive tour through TripAdvisor from “Guided Northern Lights Tour at Kiruna” to see the Northern Lights in Abisko. Despite the live webcams in Abisko showing cloudy skies and snowfall, we were taken on the tour. Unsurprisingly, we saw nothing and had to endure a total of four hours of night travel before returning. This tour should have been canceled due to poor weather conditions, as is the standard practice worldwide.

We had a blast: we left Kiruna with cloudy sky after being told there may be the possibility it wouldn't clear up in time: expectations were set appropriately. The van wasn't well heated but we were given appropriate winter gears. When we got to the forest cabin, the sky opened up and we had an amazing view of the northern lights: super strong because of some extremely intense solar activity. Very lucky indeed

We paid for “Northern light Chase by minivan”….so was expected to go around, not standing four Hours in the same place. They brougth to there Camp, Aurora Camp and stop. It is called “aurora Colosseum”…paying less and have dinner too. We have paid 200€ per person for a 15’ Van transfer and a warm drink

I was very pleasantly surprised. The weather in Kiruna was awful, cloudy and hazy so I was super negative about seeing the lights but the guides managed to follow them and find them. Almost getting to the destination the lights were so strong they pull over in the highway so we could get out and see them, we were so close to the destination but they wanted to make sure we would see them. That was a very nice thing of them to do!! The lights were SOOO strong, gorgeous!! They also made a fire which was much needed in the cold, gave us some very tasty warm juice with refills and some snack. You're paying for mostly the drive but 100% worth it.

The experience was absolutely great!!! Warming atmosphere, great chatting by the fire inside the Ice Colosseum that was being sculpted, a nice ride on a sled pushed by snowmobile, under a gorgeous starry sky, great typical swedish food for dinner and obviously.. the greatest moment and the luck to see the incredible northern lights and take unforgettable pictures with the help and expertise of Dave and Mateus, our experienced and warming hosts! A tour to be remembered for life, that we definitely recommend everyone should do! My wife and I had the company of a party of six other american travellers that were so nice and help made this experience even more special, witth Alex's playlist on spotify! We thank Dave and Mateus to have offered us so many great moments!

They write on their website that they will take you to see the aurora moving within a radius of 125 km including the Abisko park, in reality they don't do more than 20 staying in the vicinity of Kiruna, despite the forecasts showing that in Abisko you can see the aurora much more intensely. They will reply that the webcam is not reliable because it is emphasized compared to the human eye. Too bad that the one in Kiruna showed the clouds and the one in Abisko the aurora. A legalized theft.

We were very unlucky with the weather because it was snowing a lot and perhaps they could have anticipated a little that it would be difficult to see them, the guide tried to look for places but it was actually another family we came with that was looking for the spots to find the northern lights. It could have been better
