Harbourside Market
The Halifax Farmers Market was created by Royal Proclamation in June of 1750, a year after the founding of Halifax. The Governor and Council designated a site for the Market – the present day Bank of Montreal building. For 50 years this flesh, meat or cattle market, as it was known, sold produce as well as livestock delivered from Acadian farms in the Annapolis Valley and from local farm production. In 1848 the City of Halifax was incorporated and the original City Charter conveyed the Country Market property to the city “for the public and common benefit and use of the City of Halifax according to the true interest and meaning of the original grant.” The Market has operated in several locations across the city since its inception in 1750, but moved to the Halifax Seaport in 2010 where it is now known as the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market – the longest continuously running Market in North America and proudly hosting over 250 vendors!

It was a great tour. We covered every icon in the city and Paul was an expert guide. I leaned so much about the city and the history behind it. It was amazing!

Paul is an incredible source of information about Halifax. We learned so much on the 1/2 day tour. And he navigated the area very well. We HIGHLY recommend this tour of Halifax and the surrounding area.

Our tour guide was an excellent driver, extremely organized, and he had an abundant knowledge of Halifax. He showed videos in the van to help explain historical locations. LOTS of information! However, we spent the whole day practically in the van. The trip to the botanical Gardens was excellent. I would’ve preferred more time outside the van, or a museum, or just exploring the views. There was no interaction with the other guests as we needed to “listen” most of the time. Fortunately we had a great weather day!

Was excellent tour. We’ve taken cruise ship tours in the past and they paled in a comparison with this tour. Guide was very experienced and knowledgeable about the city. We saw many areas of Halifax which we had never seen before like the firing of the cannon and changing of the guard at noon. We arrived there 10 minutes before, just in time to get a wonderful view. As a requirement for us, we were picked up and delivered back to the ship. It was very easy to find the departure location. We strongly recommend this tour.
