What To Expect

Royal Botanical Gardens

Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya are about 5.5 km to the west of the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. In 2016, the garden was visited by 1.2 million locals and 400,000 foreign visitors. It is near the Mahaweli River (The longest river in Sri Lanka). It is renowned for its collection of orchids. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Attached to it is the "National Herbarium of Sri Lanka".

Kandy War Cemetery

During World War II, the city of Kandy hosted the Headquarters of the South East Asian Command and was a key location for the war effort. The graveyard that used to be known as the Pitakande Military Cemetery was taken over by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as a permanent war cemetery, and it is now the final resting place of soldiers of the British Empire killed during the war. This British military cemetery includes: 107 British soldiers; 35 East African soldiers; 26 Sri Lankan soldiers; 23 Indian soldiers; 6 Canadian soldiers; 3 Italian soldiers; and 1 French soldier. Of these, more than 75% served the army, with the rest belonging to the Air Force, Navy and National Fire Service.

The three of us joined a half-day Tuktuk trip with Irfan, and the experience was amazing. Irfan was patient, experienced, and very communicative. He also recommended good lunch spot to us that we all loved dearly. Would definitely recommend anyone who’s planning on visiting Kandy to go on this tour, especially with Irfan.

We drove from Kandy to Sigiriya and looked at Lions Rock after a 20 minute ascent. It was a really nice experience. Afterwards we went to the cave temples. We really liked the tour. A special thanks goes to our driver Irfan, who provided us with a lot of useful information about Sri Lanka during the trip. It was really interesting, thank you Irfan! We would recommend the tour.

Mr Irfan was on time, dressed immaculately and was happy to design the tour totally around my needs. There was no shopping or sales involved, which made me very happy. He escorted me to the Botanical gardens. made sure I got in and gave me flexibility in how long I wanted to stay. He explained and gave me choices all along the way he was very receptive to my needs and regularly offering me food, water or rest. He told me about his family and also was very interested in my life. I felt very fortunate that he had guided me through my city tour in Kandy. He took me up on either side of the city and the views were tremendous. Before going to the temple of the tooth he made sure that I had a good lunch and rest. He was always exactly where he said he would be and at no time did I wait for him anywhere. I can’t recommend him strongly enough for a solo traveler he was my perfect guide. After the tour, he sent me videos and pictures that he had taken also during the day and even noticed when we went to the traditional dance show that I was not taking pictures so therefore he did.. Perfect day

We enjoyed the tour very much! Mr. Shamin is a great host, precise, attentive and friendly. He also asked if we wanted to skip some places which suited us well because we had already visited Kandy earlier. Highly recommend!

This was the best way to see Kandy and our guide, Irfan was excellent. He made sure we saw all the cultural sites and were comfortable throughout the trip. He explained the local history and helped us understand the religious aspects of each visit. By the end of our half day tour we were able to plan the rest of our visit with confidence. Thanks so much Irfan.

We had a fabulous day with our tuktuk driver Irfan! All of the sites were very interesting and gave us a great cultural understanding of Kandy. We felt very safe as Irfan navigated the busy city with ease and felt that he was a very experienced driver. A highlight from the trip was definitely the big Buddha and Kandy dance. Irfan even took us up to the Kandy lookout at sunset as we didn’t go earlier in the day due to the rain - it was a great end to our day! Highly recommend this tour if you are staying in Kandy!

Wow what an incredible introduction to Kandy (and Sri Lanka) we had with Mr Irfan. The tour with Mr Irfan struck the perfect balance between informative, entertaining, fulfilling yet somehow relaxing without feeling like we were rushed around. He is a very, very kind man who looks after you very well, making sure you are watered, fed and having a great time. Kandy is such a beautiful city and made even more beautiful by the sights Mr Irfan takes the time to show you. We saw the real downtown Kandy as well as some stunning heritage sights. I really recommend upgrading the tour to include the Ambuluwawa Tower too, it’s out of the way but so, so worth it. I’ll recommend Mr Irfan every single time

Tour was amazing! Everything is so spread out in Kandy so this private Tuk Tuk tour allows you to see all of the sites in half a day! Our guide Irfan was incredible, super friendly & knowledge & asked us where we would like to go. A must do while in Kandy!
