Our tour starts leaving the city La Paz heading south, then we head to the "Valley of the Animas" we will walk for about 1 hour with phenomenal natural geological formations, then the transport will take us to the banks of the "Canyon of Palca" so we will make a second hike this time the trajectory will appreciate orchards, farms with local people of the site that we will descend on the banks of the small river for 1h 30m otherwise we will see different landscapes and colors.

What To Expect
Valle de las Animas
Departure at 9:00 am our transport will take you to a restaurant so you can taste the delicious snack mentioned "La Salteña". From this point we will have to travel for about 1 hour until we reach the valley. The valley full of huge obelisks, composed of sandy clay. Its geological forms give an appearance of petrified spirits and sounding winds, managing to hear strange sounds. Walk for 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the speed of the person.
Palca Canyon
Once we have visited the valley, transportation will be waiting for us to take us to the canyon for about 20 minutes. Then we will walk for 1 hour or a little more inside we will see spectacular views of the Palca canyon, thus giving the possibility of a great walk along the river, walks where one can relax and see unique landscapes and a little flora and fauna region of. Once the walks have been achieved, we will pass through a town called Palca or we can rest. And the transport will take us back for a 2-hour trip to the City of La Paz. A “do not miss” tour for people who like hiking and being outdoors in exquisite and unusual places!

5.00We had an incredible hiking day with our lovely and super capable guide, Patricia! She picked us up from our hotel in the south part of La Paz and drove us to two stunning hiking canyons. The first was Palca Canyon, which is known as the Grand Canyon of Bolivia. The hike was about 1.5 hours (8,000 steps?) We took hiking poles which helped immensely over the rocks of the river bed and the climb down into the dry riverbed. The canyon was majestic and inspiring. The second hike was at the Valle de las Animas (Valley of the Souls), the canyon’s name is based on a legend. (Hike was about an hour and less intense hiking than the first one). It is a place that is so unreal you feel like it is not of this world. The eroding spires were out of a space movie set. Patricia guided our every step. She told us of the history and legends…as well as adding personal antidotes of the area. We highly recommend this half day trip for those you love the outdoors, hiking and seeing the exquisite unbelievable (and highly unusual) beauty of nature. Great day, great tour! Glad we didn’t miss it! We were practically the only people in both canyons!
