  • Snorkling review

The equipment didn’t work well for both us, the masks did not have a vent to prevent fogging in the mask. Also the wind was too intense to use the umbrella. And it is windy all the time there. Would have been nice to know ahead of time, waste of extra money. Our tour guide Marta was very sweet and we could see how much she loves the island! (But she needs a microphone! Could not hear her well in the back of the van).

  • Strange early morning schedule

The drivers were fantastic but I think that the early morning schedule doesn't make sense. It was dark, cold, and overcast so early in the morning and it would make much more sense to schedule the tours for later in the day. In hindsight, I would have tried to get a permit myself and drove myself later in the day.

  • Very poor guide and facilities

Remember to check your facility in advance. My snorkel did not function and I rent another one on site. After finishing the tour, the guide told me it was "only" stuck by sand and did not want to take responsibility for it. Remember that the guide is only a driver, nothing more.

It was the first time I went there since Hanauma Bay was paid. We didn't have to make a reservation, we had transportation to and from the hotel, and we rented snorkeling equipment so we could participate without stress. Snorkeling was my first time, but once I got used to it, it was great fun. There were still fewer fish than in the past. I realized once again that we need to protect the ocean. I also want to participate.

Favorite experience of the trip, it does feel like this tour nickels and dimes you. Entrance fee not included, beach chairs extra cost, etc. Would recommend just renting chairs at the bay instead of from company. But since it was our first time it was all very convenient.

The weather was perfect. Water temp was a tiny bit cold but well worth it. I saw so many fish. Scenery was amazingly beautiful. Staff were so nice and very knowledgeable

Hanauma Bay is a must visit for snorkelers and beach goers. It’s beautiful in the morning with tons of sea life. While you can visit without a tour, I hear that reservation is needed. Gear rentals are available onsite but pricey. Bring your own gear if possible. Plenty of parking on site.

  • Absolutely worth it - try for a sunny day!

I did this activity twice within a week! It's a long review, but it's worth the read. Firstly, if you are expecting a hands-on snorkeling lesson, this probably isn't the right activity for you. The service drops you off at the bay, and then you are on your own. Thankfully, though, snorkeling is pretty easy and doesn't take much know-how. Look up a quick YouTube video before going out if you're not sure. Trying to go to Hanauma Bay on your own accord is possible, however, this service is DEFINITELY worth it. Not having to worry about parking and getting your hands on a reservation (sometimes impossible) is worth the cost alone... but you also get gear and a ride to/from your hotel! What to expect: Once everyone has been picked up from their hotels, the guide will drive you over to Hanauma Bay, giving a quick rundown of the area, other landmarks, the history, etc. on the way. Once in the area, they will take you to a scenic overlook to see the sun rise and give you an opportunity to try your fins on for size and finalize any additional rentals you wish to make. MAKE SURE TO BRING THE $25 ENTRENCE FEE WITH YOU IN CASH. Once you're done, the van will get in line for enterence: you are pretty much the first people in the park! My experience: My first trip out was on a Sunday morning. The bay is closed Mondays and Tuesdays so the wildlife can rest, so this was at the end of the week, so to speak, so the more "sensitive" fish had called it quits. It was super cloudy, which meant significantly less visibility in the water. While I still enjoyed myself, I left that day feeling disappointed - like I didn't get the full experience because of the weather. (Nothing the company can control, obviously.) Since snorkeling was the whole reason I was in Oahu, I decided to extend my stay so I could try one more time... and I am SOOOOO thankful I did. My second trip was on sunny Weds. morning - we were among the first people to set foot in the bay after the two days of "rest." I got in the water first thing... there were so many different species I didn't see last time, and I could actually see how bright they were! The sun made all the difference in the world, and being there after the bay rested meant the fish were more populous. The further you go out from the shore, the clearer the water is - especially if there are a lot of people in towards the shore kicking up sand and whatnot. One thing I wanted to mention specifically was how thankful I am that this service offered full face mask rental. I know they are controversial for a lot of (valid) reasons, but due to a medical condition, I am unable to use the standard setup. Having the option to rent one of these masks is what made the entire endeavor doable for me. Sidenote: If you go with a full facemask, just make sure to clear it every so often so carbon monoxide doesn't build up. (The masks already filter the carbon monoxide out, but it's good to clear it every once in a while regardless.) If you are prone to panic, don't go with a full face mask. (If the mask takes on water, you have to remain calm, hold your breath, and pull the mask away from your face/unclip it.)

  • A Lovely Relaxing Dat at the Hanauma Bay

The overall experience was good. The time of getting there not perfect. It's a bit cold and wavy early in the morning, so better to get there around 11 am at this time of the year (Oct) maybe. Otherwise, all good.

  • Check your gear, seriously!

Snorkel equipment was faulty and prevented us from experiencing the full tour. Place was amazing though and driver Micah was terrific at his 3rd day on the job!
