Your Tasting in the Dark Experience will begin at the Hardys Tintara Cellar Door. You will meet your host at the Cellar Door where you will be guided to our Fortified Barrel Hall. This room is on the bottom level of the original winery, and maintains a constant temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, so make sure to bring a jacket in the colder months. Your host will then guide you through the wine tasting process and describe what role each of the senses play during the process. With the lights turned down, blindfolds on, and sipping from black wine glasses, you will discover what happens when you remove the sense of sight, and understand how it influences your wine tasting experience. This tasting is about enhancing your wine knowledge and gaining a deeper understanding of your palate.

Have you ever wondered how the senses work together to influence your wine tasting experience? Join us in our exclusive Fortified Cellar to find out with a bespoke, fun and interactive wine tasting that will engage and challenge your senses. The five senses all play a role in how we experience and taste wine. Your host will guide you through the wine tasting process and describe what role each of the senses play during the process. To challenge your senses and your wine tasting experience, you will be TASTING IN THE DARK… Journey deep into the darkness of our Fortified Cellar, we will turn down the lights, put on the blindfolds and pour wine into black wine glasses to discover what happens when you remove the sense of sight, and understand how it influences your wine tasting experience. Tasting in the Dark is suitable for all levels, no prior knowledge required. This tasting is about enhancing your wine knowledge and gaining a deeper understanding of your palate - how you taste wine - to elevate the wine experience. You will walk away with wine sensory tricks and skills you can take to your next social gathering.

We had an incredible time at Hardy’s Tintara, experiencing’Tasting in the Dark’. Our host Alistair was very knowledgeable and knew how to engage with our group. Hardy’s has so much history and of course delightful wines!

Such a wonderful surprise birthday present for my husband! Rachel, our guide/winemaker was fabulous in setting up the scene to make us aware how important our senses are in delivering information to our brain. Well organised and scheduled, and we enjoyed some wonderful wines , which get changed around for the tastings, so no cheating!!! Our first round was poured with blindfolds on so we didn’t see the wine and so she could light the candles etc. Black glasses made it impossible to tell by sight what the wine may be. We used our senses. We had another lovely couple join us, who were enjoying a Mystery Picnic Event. We had a lot of laughs and learnt new things!!!!! A really great experience. We also joined the Wine Club and get 25% discount on their wines and also at a variety of wineries….due very soon to add more wineries to that list due to a merger!!! Highly recommend it, and also a visit to the Fleurieu Arthouse on the same property…gobsmackingly inspirational and open from Thursday to Sunday 11-4pm

We arrived at Hardy's close to the end of the day but were still made to feel welcome. We had a quick tasting and chose a very good red. The staff were relaxed and informative. We hope to return and spend more time learning about wines from this great name.
