DJ was fantastic! We had a small group which allowed him to tailor the tour to us more. He did a fantastic job of story telling and perfectly combined true crime and history with witty banter. Highly recommend

So to be fair, I think this would have been a better tour/experience if we had a different guide. However, this was not a ghost tour—although it was history based and at times interesting, more time was spent on the tour guides personal opinions and beliefs surrounding the expressed subject matter. We did feel like we got our money’s worth as the tour was lengthy (recommend wearing comfortable shoes) and we went to plenty of places. The random stop in the middle of the tour with the room with the glow in the dark plates was a bit drawn out, although the AC break was nice. However, the story told in that room was underwhelming and not super interesting. The bartender at one of the bars we went to was extremely rude. I would have thought they would have treated people on the tour nicely considering it is more than likely a contracted stop. The Blacksmith’s Bar needs to be taken completely off the walking tour. It was extremely too dark in there which I guess is part of the appeal, however the “no electricity, candlelit” vibe is super dangerous. Subsequently, by this point in the tour most of the women needed to use the restroom. The bathrooms here were literally the most atrocious, disgusting, unkept, and unsanitary bathrooms I have ever been in, in my entire life. It’s NOLA, so I was not expecting a Buccee’s experience, but it would have been nice to not feel like I was going to get Hepatitis from the encounter. Lastly, the tour guide: he was friendly, nice, and always made us feel safe while on the tour. He did a great job going over the rules and requirement of the tour, and always made sure the group stayed together and everyone was accounted for. However, he did make our group feel a little bullied into tipping him for subpar stories and literature. Also—we are 99% positive the guy was drunk. Or perhaps he was an unmedicated man with ADHD. Either way, he spoke entirely too fast the entire tour and at times our group had a hard time understanding him. I suspect he had a little drinky drink in his drink bottle. Now I end this review with saying I am not a 20-something year old anymore, so perhaps my experience was a 1 off as the 20 something year olds in the tour were hooting and hollering towards the end and having a jolly old time.

Dj was awesome. He was funny, honest, knowledgeable and overall a cool guy. He made sure everyone had a good time while sharing the history of NOLA with us.
