What To Expect

Spend up to 3 hours hiking on the Fox Glacier, The fly-in, fly-out heli hike combines the excitement of walking on the Te Moeka o Tuawe/Fox Glacier with the thrill of helicopter flights. By flying in you can access and explore a part of the glacier where its forces work hardest and often create spectacular ice caves and arches. You will be outfitted with boots and crampons specially designed for these ice conditions. You follow the ice steps cut by your guide as you explore the amazing formations. Please note that this is a natural and ever-changing environment. Ice features change constantly and no guarantee can be given that specific features will be seen. This is a weather dependent trip. Our guide was excellent, explaining everything enthusiastically. I loved the hike—it wasn't too difficult and was truly a great experience. My friend which 63 years old also made it throughout the journey. When flying in the helicopter and looking down at the people waiting at the starting point, we humans appeared as small as peanuts compared to the glacier. Other guides were present to create and maintain our walking path, as the previous day's rain could cause the trail to change periodically. Shoes, socks, jacket, pants, glove and bags is provided. Recommend not to bring too much things with you. We were busy enjoying the views and taking pictures.

This was everyone’s favorite activity we did in New Zealand! Our guide, Billy, helped make it super fun! We spent a lot of time walking around on the glacier and taking pictures. Billy set up fun opportunities for us to do, like holding on to ropes and sliding into a semi-horizontal crevasse. He also shared a lot of interesting information about the glacier and area. The helicopter ride was super fun! We highly recommend this activity!

We enjoyed every minute but you should be prepared for a lot of walking. The guides took it slow. Also, was not aware about bringing medication, should you have to spend the night. High light of our trip!
