What To Expect
Kaldidalur Valley
“The Nutshell” is Mountain Taxi’s signature day trip special and a perennial favourite of our guests. A morning drive from Reykjavik in our Mountain Taxi Super jeep brings us to Kaldidalur or "Cold Valley". On our right lies the western side of the massive, nearly 1.000 square kilometer large Langjökull glacier, resting on a torn and twisted volcanic base. Depending on time of year, weather and conditions, your expert driver may use his super jeep's extreme abilities to climb the glacial slopes of Langjökull. An opportunity for cold, personal contact with nature's icy element. Next we enter the glaciers Ice cave (Into the glacier) Then Hraunfossar waterfalls, dropping straight out of lava cliff faces into the glacial river Hvítá. From nature to culture, we visit the historic site of Reykholt, home of Iceland’s legendary chieftain and writer Snorri Sturluson. Here, he wrote some of the greatest Sagas of the Icelanders, brilliant literature also preserving the culture and history of the Viking Age to our day. See Iceland's oldest man-made structure, Snorri Sturlusons 13th century hot tub. Nearby is Deildartunguhver, the most productive hot spring in the Northern Hemisphere and a source of much of western Iceland’s heating needs. Our day wraps up in Reykjavik, taking in the scenic and historic Hvalfjörður fjord on the way.

5.00Our family spent 5 days and 4 nights exploring with Kristján and could not have had more fun. They completely planned our adventure, including glaciers, beaches, lava caves, ice caves and waterfalls, and everything from the food to the lodging to the 4x4ing exceeded expectations. We will definitely be back!

5.00Iceland was one of our best trips we ever had. Our tour guid and owner of „Mountain Taxi“ Kristjan made it even more special. In our three day private tour we had the chance to see the best of the best in Iceland packaged in spectacular experiences and combined with backgrounds and stories from Kristjan. What we saw was just breathtaking and will stay in our heart and memories for ever. Starting in the Blue Lagoon, the drift of the tectonic plates, Snowmobile ride on the Glacier, Geysir, Waterfalls, Climbing a Glacier & exploring an Ice Cave, Glacier Lagoon, Crystal Beach, Nightlife in Reykjavik and Wahle watching in the midnight sun. Thank you Kristjan, we will come again!

5.00We had an extraordinary sojourn to Iceland! Our quality experience was largely due to the skill, professionalism and genial manner of Kristjan, the owner of Mountain Taxi, our trip-long guide and driver. His wide-ranging knowledge of the country’s history; culture, terrain and all that it has to offer, is infectious. We explored the western peninsula, then travelled southward and eastward as far as the Glacial Lagoon, traversing lava fields, rivulets, black sand beaches, basalt columns, waterfalls and glaciers. Kristjan’s constant monitoring of changing weather conditions and the limited daylight enabled us to maximize the journey. Our trip began with the excellent planning of Bjork, Kristjan’s wife and partner at Mountain Taxi. She patiently helped construct a complex itinerary based on our wish-list of destinations. She also booked our hotels. We thank Kristjan and Bjork for providing a memorable experience for our family. We recommend them highly and without reservation. Nathan and Patricia for our Garland family of 7.

5.00Gisli our driver and guide was a delight. His driving skills should become recorded as an introductory class for four-wheeling. The vehicle was handsomely impressive with all the necessary accessories and kit for an off-roading adventure. Gisli was accommodating to my wife's mobility issues and ensured her travels were safe and comfortable during the entire trip. His knowledge of the highlands, glaciers, waterfalls, and volcanoes were above expectations. Adding colorful cultural and historic knowledge added to the overall adventure experience.

5.00Had a fantastic day with Gisli Picked us up on time he was very very knowledgeable and very helpful and kind we have 3 children aged 12, 10 and 6 He arranged lunch for us on the way at a bistro and took many photos for us and we learned a lot about Iceland history and culture. Amazing vehicle felt very safe even though the conditions got quite poor at the Glacier Amazing tour the climax being driven over a glacier and then going inside A day to remember for us all made special by the Mountain Taxi team

5.00We had the privelage of a day tour with a lovely man called Roggi. We were able to choose what we wanted to see and do and he took us around the golden Circle and then up the mountain to the glacier. He was fabulous, very funny, lots of knowledge of the places we visited. Nothing was too much trouble. He was helpful and considerate. Im so glad we had the personal touch from this company, as we had been let down by a previous one. We will Definately be booking future tours when we return with this company.

5.00Just back from a long weekend in Iceland and we did a 3 days customized tour with the fantastic Gisli Pall Hannesson as our guide! Honestly, we couldn't have done it without him. Having the benefit of his knowledge of Iceland and his great driving skills along with his easy personality...just an all round great combination for us 4 city slickers. We covered a lot of territory in the 3 days: the Gullfoss waterfall, Thingvellir National Park, Geysir hot spring, Into the Volcano, Into the Glacier (Langjokull), Snaefellsness Peninsula, the black beach, Vatnshellir lava cave, Arnastapi... AND we got to see the infamous Northern Lights thanks to Gisli! We will definitely return to Iceland and certainly use Mountain Taxi again!!!
The Northern Lights were definitely the highlight among so many other wonderful sights!

5.00We are six world travelers and our 3 day private Mountain Jeep tour with Kristjan was definitely one of our top trips. His vehicles are very comfortable with lots of room and windows. We were constantly on the go and saw such a variety of landscapes from volcanos, geysers, glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beach with dramatic waves, caves and the Northern Lights, our days were full of breathtaking views and lots of background information. Kristjan is an excellent guide and we all enjoyed seeing and learning about Icelandic history. Kristjan even encouraged me to take a walk inside a glacier, a once in a lifetime experience! His recommendations were topnotch. An all around first class trip.

5.00I can't say enough about the incredible experience we enjoyed in our August trip to Iceland. Without a doubt, we got to see way more of what this beautiful country could offer, than if we tried exploring it by ourselves. Our excellent guide, Kristjan, is an undisputed expert in on nature, history, culture and people of Iceland. He loves showing the magic of his homeland to his guests, and it shows! Of special note is our transportation: A (very) beefed-up Mercedes Sprinter complete with enormous tires. It was guaranteed to turn heads, in admiration, each time we pulled into a parking lot. We were frequently amused by other tourists posing for photos in front of it. The exciting part is that the mods were not there just for their looks. Kristjan took every opportunity to put them to use, getting us to those hard-to-reach spots that only a vehicle like ours could reach. We drove to/over spectacular mountain peaks, rivers, glaciers - you name it! We had three generations of the family in our group, and everyone had an extremely memorable experience. I would strongly recommend Mountain Taxi to anyone considering a family trip to Iceland.
