The Troll Church (484 m.a.s.l.) consists of three exciting limestone grottos with underground streams and waterfalls. The two lower grottos have beautiful waterfalls that cascade 14 metres down into a white marble pool. The uppermost one consists of long underground passages. On the surface to the west of the uppermost grotto there is a fishing lake with white marble "jetties". The mountain behind the Trolls' church is very distinctive, with jagged points and spires.

What To Expect
The Trollkirka, Troll church, is no ordinary church as many may think, but an exciting marble and limestone cave in the mountains with underground rivers and waterfalls. It takes about an hour and a half to get to the caves. The main cave is about 70 m long and leads into a waterfall that falls into a white marble bowl. We will bring flashlight and lunch package for you. We recommend hiking boots / waterproof shoes for this trip because of the water inside the caves, in addition to the start of the trail that sometimes can be wet. You can take also your bikini/swimming wear and take a refreshing swim in the mountain lake closeby.

4.00A fun route, a lot of mud on the way, so sandals or sealed walking shoes are better. Headlamps and warm clothing are mandatory into the cave. The track is long and beautiful and like every track in Norway it is uphill most of the time 😊. The cave is very impressive and a crazy experience although dangerous - cold, wet and narrow with rocks above and below. In Israel there is no way they would allow entry to such a pristine and inaccessible place.

5.00The Troll Church Cave hike was a very nice hike. A bit more challenging than originally expected but well worth the effort. Pille picked us up at the dock on time and took us through the forest up to the cave and safely back down again. Proper clothing and shoes are highly recommended for this hike.

5.00Hike from 1.5 hours to 2 hours upwards. Good shoes and clothes are a requirement. Not an easy climb (as a simple walk, pay attention here and there) but worth it (above the tree line). Here and there (3x) you can use ropes, but you don't have to. The cave is dark, so a light(s) is required. Also an interesting hike through the cave, over water and large stones. To do but also to have some sense at zero and keep going and it will not disappoint you. In retrospect, very glad we did it. Pille is super friendly and takes care of everything, including drinks, food and lights. Nice challenging tour (for us then and we walk the dog quite a lot...)

5.00We are both in our mid-70s, but our spirit of adventure and discoveery hasn't retired. We were looking for someone to lead us on this exciting hike to Troll Church Caves. Pille Mitt turned out to be a wonderful, patient, caring guide. She provided transportation, lunch, and personal guidance throoughout the hike. We enjoyed the local information she shared as well as the technical information for a successful roundtrip. We cherish the memories and pictures we made that day. No matter your age, this is a great hike. Get out there and enjoy it!

5.00Loved how varied the hike was - calm forests, a little bit of scrambling on rocks, great views. The caves were a real treat and a highlight of Norway for me. Definitely want to go again. Braver souls can take a swim in the mountain top lake!
