Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park

Kick off your adventure with a hearty breakfast at your hotel in Thamel before embarking on an hour-long drive to Sundarijal, the gateway to your trek. From Sundarijal, a 30-minute hike will bring you to the entrance of Shivapuri National Park, where you’ll obtain your permit. As you ascend through the park, you’ll pass by the charming village of Mulkharka, an ideal spot to stop for lunch or refreshments. After having our packed lunch, continue your journey through a lush jungle and up stone-paved steps, finally reaching Chisapani. This quaint village offers one of the most spectacular dawn viewpoints in the world, with breathtaking vistas of Gaurisankar, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and other majestic peaks.

Chisapani

Chisapani, a charming village located at an altitude of 2,165 meters, is a popular stop on trekking routes near Kathmandu. Known for its stunning sunrise views, Chisapani offers panoramic vistas of the Himalayas, including peaks like Gaurisankar, Ganesh Himal, and Dorje Lakpa. The village is surrounded by lush forests and serves as a tranquil retreat for trekkers, providing a peaceful atmosphere and a glimpse into local mountain life. With its blend of natural beauty and cultural simplicity, Chisapani is a must-visit for those exploring the Kathmandu Valley's outskirts.

Nagarkot

Your trek continues through the enchanting trails of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, where you might encounter a diverse array of wildlife, including Indian leopards and Himalayan black bears. Keep an eye out for smaller creatures like mongooses, porcupines, and jungle cats, and enjoy the vibrant birdlife, including the elusive yellow-throated marten. Stop for lunch en route at Chauki Bhanjyang or Jhule before pressing on to Nagarkot. Arrive in time to witness a breathtaking sunset over the Himalayas. Spend the evening enjoying a delicious dinner in one of the many hotels at this renowned hill station.

Changunarayan Temple, believed to be the oldest in Nepal, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in history and culture. Despite the damage from the 2015 earthquake, the temple still stands as a testament to Nepal’s resilience and the enduring power of its traditions. We spent time exploring the intricate carvings and learning about the temple’s significance before making our way back to Kathmandu.
