Sasivekalu Ganesha Temple
This huge monolithic statue of Lord Ganesh stands at the foothills of Hemakuta. The name Sasivekalu Ganesha literally means 'Mustard seed Ganesha'. This name was probably given since the fingers on the feet of Ganesh's statue looks like spherical grains and someone referred to them as Sasive kalu. Most people do not go and see the back of this Ganesh where there is a mysterious lady carved out...
Hemakuta Hill Temple Complex
After visiting Ganesh statue, we climb the Hemakuta hill (about 100 steps) from the top of which stunning landscapes of Hampi open all around us. We pass by temples, boulders, gateways, stone carvings, pre-Vijayanagara temples etc. before climbing down on the other side towards Virupaksha temple.

We did the tour with Mr. Lokesh. The guide speaks English well and slowly so that you can understand it. We are not very good at English and so when we asked what something meant, he would explain us with other words to be able to make us understand. He proposed to take pictures of us in the most beautiful places, suggesting where to put us to get the best shot. The tour is well organized and allows you to discover this archaeological site. We recommend starting early in the morning because then it gets too hot and still gets full of people. Bring packed lunches and water as there are not many dining options. The guide was helpful and always asked us if we needed a break, toilet etc..
