Hiroshimagokoku Shrine
Visitors begin their experience at Hiroshima Gogoku Shrine by exploring its elegant architecture and tranquil surroundings. Originally established to enshrine the protective deities of Hiroshima domain, the shrine now also serves as a place of solace and remembrance for those affected by historical events.
Hiroshima Castle
Hiroshima Castle, also known as Carp Castle, is a historic landmark in Hiroshima, Japan. Originally constructed in the 1590s, it served as the home of the daimyō (feudal lord) of the Hiroshima han (domain). The castle was an important military and administrative center until it was destroyed by the atomic bomb in 1945. It has since been reconstructed and now functions as a museum that offers insights into Hiroshima's history, Japanese feudal architecture, and the samurai culture of the Edo period. The castle's grounds, surrounded by a moat and lush gardens, provide a scenic walk and a peaceful retreat from the modern city surrounding it.

More focused on generic Japanese history than Hiroshima and the A-bomb, could do this walk using the Lonely Plant self-guided walking route in Hiroshima

Katya (I think that’s how you spell her name) was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable both in the history and evolution of Hiroshima post-bombing. A small group of only 10 of us moved through several key places of interest and learned a great deal from her. Very engaging and inclusive. Highly recommend.

If you are interested in World War 2 history , This is a must. The walking tour is 2hours and 30 Minutes with not a lot of walking as the sites are close. The tour guide will give you 2 10 minute lectures on aspects of why the United States dropped the bomb and other details about the effects of the bomb. She herself is the granddaughter of a bomb survivor so that made it even more interesting. Hiroshima is now a vibrant bustling city, so it’s wonderful to see the contrast between what happened in 1945 and what is now happening in 2025.

Chihiro was our tour guide. Her storytelling was very clear and easy to follow of the events that led to the A-bomb dropping in Hiroshima. During the long lecture, we always had a place to sit down and listen. There were two breaks during the tour, allowing plenty of time to rest and let the history sink in.
