Historium Brugge
In the Historium Story we take you on a time trip to medieval Bruges. Let yourself be swept up in a wonderful love story while walking through seven historical themed rooms – magnificent medieval backdrops, with film, music and special effects. Using an audio guide you will hear everything about the Golden Age of Bruges and imagine yourself back in the time of Jan van Eyck. The Historium is located on the Market Square, where the Waterhalle used to be. This was the central warehouse for the shipping industry in the thriving trading city. The location has been reconstructed in the attraction and gives your visit an extra dimension. Anyone who wants to try virtual reality will have a wonderful adventure with the Historium VR Experience. It allows you to complement your visit with a virtual trip to Bruges in its Golden Age. Before or after your main visit, the Historium Virtual Reality takes you on an unforgettable virtual tour of medieval Bruges. From the comfort of a virtual reality booth, you travel back in time to the historical city and get to explore it interactively for eight whole minutes. You even get to see and use your hands! An intense experience.

4.00I really liked this museum, we came in to escape the sun. The story helped the history of Brugges come alive. I like how they space the groups out so there was only 8 of us going through each part of the story which meant everyone got to see what was going on. It would be better though if there were more places to sit during the story. We did the VR and tower ticket. The tower is not for the unfit (me) my thighs were burning after climbing to the top. Lovely views of the city at the top, but very narrow to walk around. The VR made me feel a bit queesy, at the end it goes "flying" over the rooftops of Brugges. Overall it was nice, not too busy only ruined by a group of Spanish students too busy looking at their phones in front of exhibits (obviously not the museum's fault).

5.00A fun activity to start the day with. The VR was nicely set up and the story was fun to see once. Climbing the tower is a must. Once at the top you can see the city well. At the end, you will reach the Duvel cafe. In this café you can enjoy a drink while overlooking the square.

2.00The historical content was great and the walk-through experience atmospheric. We found the VR extremely disappointing as it was very low quality and just a few minutes long - to charge extra for VR I felt toally ripped off. The VR graphics were so outdated it needs to be significantly improved. I could accept the short duration if the experience was better. At best I feel that should be included at no extra in the standard ticket as it was so basic. You also have to be careful to look straight ahead when putting the headset on or the orientation is off. On the walk-through experience we did have an issue with one audio headset not working, it would only have background music playing so we missed some of the introduction narrative and had to switch it to speaker mode. Not ideal but a fairly minor issue. It would be good if more testing was done. Staff were helpful, friendly and we did not have to wait long. We paid extra to go up the tower which was memorable although is an additional charge which felt excessive. The view is also good from a balcony in the historical area but the tower is even better. Overall I enjoyed the visit and particularly the historical content but it is poor value for money. I bought 2 tickets and received two complimentary 2 VIP tickets from my host. Had I paid for all 4 tickets I would have felt compelled to complain about the VR experience in particular.

3.00The VR story was all right. The History Tour was a rather mundane thing. Without much real connection to history. With our audio guides, one had a wobble contact on the plug, so you could only hear the sounds on one channel, but not the voices on the other

4.00Last minute decision to visit, it is a beautiful old building and very modern inside. I did the VR experience first this was very good but the VR was a bit blurry sometimes. It was very enjoyable learning about the history of bruges. After this I went to to the tour of about 7 different rooms. The audio guide tells you a story which was actually a very sweet love story as a backdrop to the famous paining by van eyck. You watch a film in each room it was really good to find later that the film is real not AI! The actors were great! It wasnt busy and when I went and I ended up alone most of the time in the rooms. Many of the rooms were really dark I guess so you can see the films better, but I found it kind of creepy especially being alone and the door locks behind you (there is a button to manually press to open it though). I wouldn't say its a scary attraction but I found 1 room a bit unnerving with a life size wax work figure of anna a character in the film, it was a bit too realistic. I enjoyed going out onto the balcony to get a lovely view of the market square. Definetly recommend visiting the attraction if you are in bruges.

4.00A very nice experience. We took the VR experience with us and I recommend this because it gives you a nice image of what Bruges looked like back then. It's like being catapulted back in time and seeing what life and commerce were like. The decor is also nicely made and it is just educational as far as the history of Bruges is concerned. Definitely worth a visit!
