This tour is more enjoyable if you are comfortable and not crushed up against other people on the vehicle. We keep the groups small with no more than 12 people on our vehicle, meaning our drivers can and will give you, personal service.

This tour starts later than most (at 11am) - with hotel pickups from 10:50 AM.

What To Expect
Hobbiton Movie Set
Afternoon tour - departs at 12:00 - Hotel pickups from 11:30. Travel to and from Hobbiton in a late model Mercedes Van with luxury fit-out and then join the 2 hour bus and walking tour of Hobbiton with a local guide. There are no meals included but you have time on arrival in Hobbiton buy and eat food before you go on tour

5.00The ride with Brett into Hobbiton was a wonderful part of the journey. An Auckland native, his life’s knowledge of New Zealand was fascinating. Hobbiton was everything one expected and more. Our guide, a native Māori, was informative and funny. She reallly knew everything about the history of the site and the movies. A North Island must!

5.00Philip was great. He tried to explain the local culture in Auckland and, more generally, in New Zealand. The Hobbit tour was excellent. After the tour, I plan to watch the movies again. However, the tour bus was a bit disappointing. It was not as deluxe as expected. Because of the road noise, much of what Philip talked about could only be heard with difficulty, even though he used a speaker that didn’t always work. Overall, I still enjoyed the trip.

5.00Michael picked us up from our hotel exactly on time. He was very friendly and had lots of interesting facts to share. The drive was absolutely beautiful and even though it rained the whole time Hobbiton provided unbrellla’s and it was still a fantastic experience. Bring a water proof jacket in case of weather as the tour is mostly outside. My only regret is that Michael generously offered to hold our hobbit souvenir brochure that came with the tickets and we forgot to ask for them when we were dropped off. But that is our mistake. Everything with the tour was wonderful. I would definitely recommend.
Hobbiton is well worth a trip to the other side of the world!

5.00Our tour kid was so fun & engaging. He was an Auckland native and the oldest skydiver in New Zealand! It was so awesome to have him tell us all about the sights as we drove to and back from Hobbiton. Hobbiton itself of course was just as dreamy as expected. Totally worth it when you're in NZ!

3.00Hobbiton was amazing and is not to be missed. The transportation was not as advertised. There was absolutely nothing luxury about it. The vehicle used is not rated as a luxury class vehicle. It’s rated for short distance transfers only. It felt as though the seats were sitting on the wheel well with cardboard separating them. It was so noisy that we couldn’t hear each other talk. Every bump caused our heads to hit the roof and/or our spines to be compressed. The driver was nice enough but was very soft spoken and didn’t use a headset. It was a struggle to hear the few things he pointed out to us along the way. 5 out of 8 hours of the tour are sitting in a vehicle. We chose this operator because they advertised “luxury”. Far from it. Not advisable.

5.00Darryl did an amazing job, even went above and beyond returning my phone back after I left it in the van after he had dropped us off. The tour was amazing and the commentary on the drive made the entire trip great. I plan to use them each time we come back.

5.00This was a true experience in seeing how Bolbo Buggins’s village Lord of the Rings and Hobit films actually were. Although a lengthy drive to get there the scenery was amazing and the trip back to Auckland with the view of the city as the sun went down was stunning,
