Enjoy a magical 6-6.5 hour tour to the Hobbiton Movie set, used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film series, which has made NZ famous.
Leaving the port, we first travel past the stunning beaches of Mount Maunganui, a top NZ holiday destination, across the harbor bridge and into the country, over the Kaimai mountain ranges, into the lush farming district of the Waikato, the location of Hobbiton.
At Hobbiton you can visit the Shires Rest Cafe, browse the souvenir shop or just take in the stunning views before joining the 2.5 hour guided tour, explore inside a Hobbit home and finish at The Green Dragon Pub with a complimentary Ale.
As Cruise ship arrival times varies so much, we adjust the start time to suit, which we confirm to you when your booking is accepted, always having you back at the ship in good time for its departure.
Please see the Additional Info section for details of our cancellation policy should the ship cancel its port of call within 24 hours of arrival.
Additional Info
Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller
Service animals allowed
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
If you have not already specified, you MUST advise supplier as soon as possible your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and departure time so that appropriate arrangements can be made
Children must be accompanied by an adult
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended
A rain jacket and layers are recommended
We adjust the tour start and end time to suit the ships time in port, which varies greatley
This tour operates only for cruise ships passengers visiting Tauranga
If the ship cancels its port of call within the 24 hour notice period, we will offer you a partial refund of the tour cost, adult refund is $160 NZ, youth refund is $150 NZ and a child refund is $140. We cannot offer a 100% refund as the Hobbiton Movie set does not offer any refund in such circumstances.
The tour will operate with a minimum of 4 people.
Cancellation Policy
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

Hobbiton Movie Set
We visit the World famous Movie set as used in both the Lord Of The Rings and the Hobbit movie trilogies. Your guide will lead you round the extensive movie set, showing you many of the Hobbit Holes before ending at the Green Dragon pub where you will receive a complimentary mug of ale.

Faultless and perfectly executed Cruise Ship shore excursion

5.00We booked this as a cruise ship experience which means there is always a nervous element to making sure you return in time, but there is no need to worry on this excursion. The team were in contact before hand confirming time and location for pick-up based on the ship’s arrival and departure plans. The team were waiting exactly where they said and my wife and our friends boarded modern coach within a few minutes. We were given lanyards to identify our coach and our driver/guide, Keith, was friendly and informative on the drive down to Hobbiton. I won’t say too much about Hobbiton itself other than to say we are so glad that we made the effort to visit. It was well worth the 90 minute drive each way and the cost to see this beautiful place and hear the stories of production and construction. We left in good time for the ship’s departure and even stopped at a look out point in the hills to allow a leg stretch and photo opportunity. We were delivered back to the port gates, right where we were picked up at almost exactly the planned time. A faultless day, executed perfectly by the tour team. Thank You!

5.00This was an awesome experience. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the history behind the Hobbiton experience. The whole place was just amazing and being able to look through the main characters house was fantastic and lived up to the films portrayal of life. It certainly made my daughters day!

5.00We booked with Viator as they had an excursion that was directed towards cruise ship passengers and the arrival and departure of the cruise ship. The drive is about an hour and a half from Tauranga Port. The bus was very clean, up to date and the bus driver was interesting as he did narrate over the PA interesting sites on our ride to the Hobbiton Movie Set. The tour was handles well like a well oiled machine. They have everything extremely organized. The set itself is beautiful and the details of the set are unbelievable. The grounds and gardens are also just lovely. Our tour guide at Hobbiton Movie set was excellent. I believe his name was Peter and he was excellent. He stayed with us and explained each set area and gave us time to take pictures. We never felt rushed he did an excellent job. The tour is actually pretty long and plenty of time to see each set. One set is an interactive set where you can actually go inside one of the houses. The detail is just amazing. Even on the outside of one of the houses, the fresh honey and honeycombs are fresh. The flowers are just astounding are all of the area.

5.00Excellent driver (Keith ))on time for our pick up (actually early) and he gave us a lot of information about the area on our way to Hobbiton.Driver gave us clear instructions for collecting our tickets from him and what time to meet him for the return journey The actual visit to Hobbiton was fantastic we had an excellent guide (Seb) for our tour of the set which took 2.5 hours followed by a drink in the pub.Overall an excellent day and Keith gott us back to our cruise ship in good time.

5.00As a LOTR nerd I was so excited but nervous that it wouldn’t live up to the hype. It is somehow even better than I imagined! Gary was a great driver and got us back to the cruise ship in plenty of time. 10/10 recommend. Make sure you try the Hokey Pokey ice cream!
