Enjoy a magical 6-6.5 hour tour to the Hobbiton Movie set, used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film series, which has made NZ famous.
Leaving the port, we first travel past the stunning beaches of Mount Maunganui, a top NZ holiday destination, across the harbor bridge and into the country, over the Kaimai mountain ranges, into the lush farming district of the Waikato, the location of Hobbiton.
At Hobbiton you can visit the Shires Rest Cafe, browse the souvenir shop or just take in the stunning views before joining the 2.5 hour guided tour, explore inside a Hobbit home and finish at The Green Dragon Pub with a complimentary Ale.
As Cruise ship arrival times varies so much, we adjust the start time to suit, which we confirm to you when your booking is accepted, always having you back at the ship in good time for its departure.
Please see the Additional Info section for details of our cancellation policy should the ship cancel its port of call within 24 hours of arrival.
Additional Info
Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller
Service animals allowed
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
If you have not already specified, you MUST advise supplier as soon as possible your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and departure time so that appropriate arrangements can be made
Children must be accompanied by an adult
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended
A rain jacket and layers are recommended
We adjust the tour start and end time to suit the ships time in port, which varies greatley
This tour operates only for cruise ships passengers visiting Tauranga
If the ship cancels its port of call within the 24 hour notice period, we will offer you a partial refund of the tour cost, adult refund is $160 NZ, youth refund is $150 NZ and a child refund is $140. We cannot offer a 100% refund as the Hobbiton Movie set does not offer any refund in such circumstances.
The tour will operate with a minimum of 4 people.
Cancellation Policy
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

Hobbiton Movie Set
We visit the World famous Movie set as used in both the Lord Of The Rings and the Hobbit movie trilogies. Your guide will lead you round the extensive movie set, showing you many of the Hobbit Holes before ending at the Green Dragon pub where you will receive a complimentary mug of ale.

5.00We had a wonderful experience, the bus driver Isabel was very knowledge about the area and also about the Hobbiton experience. She had lots of great stories and was an excellent tour guide of the Tauranga area. We loved the Hobbiton movie set, its one of the best experiences we have had. Being able to interact with the set was fantastic and the gardens and grounds are in excellent condition and beautiful to experience. It is a very well organised venue, and the guide at the venue was excellent. Whether you are a Lord of the Rings fan or not, this is not an experience to miss, I highly recommend and it is very family friendly as well.

4.00Tour guide was knowledgeable in the area and gave an informative commentary on the way out of the city. It was a 6hr tour in total and Hobbiton is just over an hour's drive from Tauranga. There is a fair bit of walking involved around the fillm set over uneven ground, so not ideal for people with mobility issues. It was an amazing experience we had been waiting to do for sometime, and we weren't disappointed. The tour of the movie set is guided and our guide was very informative and upbeat. There is two Hobbit homes you can actually enter and browse and the detail is incredible! The scenery is breathtaking and at the end of the tour we got to go to the 'Green Dragon' tavern to have a drink which was included in the price. We would have liked more time at the gift shop because there was everything you could possibly think of in merchandise, although not cheap! It was a great tour we would definitely recommend.

5.00My friend and I used TripAdvisor for your Hobbiton experience because the cruise ship did not have any posted excursions at the time . I would definitely recommend this excursion as they picked us up right outside of the port gates. Signs were visible and easy to find. Good communication and they brought us back to the ship with an hour to spare.

5.00Everything is good, but after seeing lots of hobbit houses with different colored doors it does get a bit tedious. if there was a one or two more homes that you can interact with or go inside and see just a room. That would break it up a bit.

5.00This was the highlight of our trip to NZ. If you are a LOTR fan, you cant miss this. Just a magical day start to finish. The Shires Rest had amazing food, great souvenirs and photo ops. Everything is very well organized and the tour is the perfect amount of time in Hobbitton. We only wished we could have stayed overnight in one of the houses you get to tour.
