Enjoy a magical 5.5 to 6-hour tour to the Hobbiton Movie set, used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film series.

Leaving the Port of Tauranga, we first travel past the stunning beaches of Mount Mauganui, a top NZ holiday destination, then across the harbour and out into country, up and over the Kaimai mountain ranges and then down into the lush farming district of the Waikato, location of Hobbiton.

At Hobbiton there is time to buy a light lunch at The Shires Rest cafe, browse the extensive souvenier shop or just realax and take in the stunning views. The Hobbiton guide will then join us for a 2 hour guided tour.

This is a coach-based tour of up to 36 passengers, which allows us to book our own private guide at Hobbiton, though on some days we do operate with 12 to 24 seat vehicles.

As the ships arrival time in port varies so much, we adjust the start and end times each day to suit. When your booking is accepted by us, we will confirm the tour start time for the day.

Our driver was great. The tour of Hobbiton was excellent. The Hobbiton guide was very enthusiastic about the history behind the site.

It was wonderful seeing the Hobbiton set. We got to go in a real house which was very enjoyable. Wish we had more time at the end to spend at the bar to enjoy drinks and pies.
Well organised tour by Viator an Hobbiton. Overpriced Hobbiton entry ticket

I arranged with Viator to join this tour from Mount Manganui with people from a cruise ship. Partly because all entry tckets from Auckland were sold out during the peak summer period and partly because we were driving back to Auckland from Tauranga.It was easy to communicate with the Viator online person and the tour company. The driver, Garry was very knowledgeable and friendly, it was a beautiful drive down to Matamata. Hobbiton is in a picteresque setting. The tours onsite are well organised. You can enter 2 of the Hobbit houses which were furnished to detail. The accompanying guide was also enthusiastic. However, I feel that the Hobbiton entry ticket is overpriced and you might want to skip if you are not a die-hard LOTR fan.

The entire experience was seamless & efficient. We were at the port along with fellow cruise guests & others. Keith, our driver/guide was personable, informative & organized. He provided lots of interesting information en route & gave thorough instructions regarding the process at Hobbiton. Hannah R, our Hobbiton guide was charming & polished. Her instructions were clear & her presentation was fascinating & well-paced. We appreciated her offer to take photos with our devices, which kept the process efficient. Our itinerary at Hobbiton was fun! We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which is meaningful even for those of us who have not read the books/seen the movies!
