Enjoy a magical 6-6.5 hour tour to the Hobbiton Movie set, used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film series, which has made NZ famous.
Leaving the port, we first travel past the stunning beaches of Mount Maunganui, a top NZ holiday destination, across the harbor bridge and into the country, over the Kaimai mountain ranges, into the lush farming district of the Waikato, the location of Hobbiton.
At Hobbiton you can visit the Shires Rest Cafe, browse the souvenir shop or just take in the stunning views before joining the 2.5 hour guided tour, explore inside a Hobbit home and finish at The Green Dragon Pub with a complimentary Ale.
As Cruise ship arrival times varies so much, we adjust the start time to suit, which we confirm to you when your booking is accepted, always having you back at the ship in good time for its departure.

Additional Info
Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller
Service animals allowed
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
If you have not already specified, you MUST advise supplier as soon as possible your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and departure time so that appropriate arrangements can be made
Children must be accompanied by an adult
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended
A rain jacket and layers are recommended
We adjust the tour start and end time to suit the ships time in port, which varies greatley
This tour operates only for cruise ships passengers visiting Tauranga
If the ship cancels its port of call within the 24 hour notice period, we will offer you a partial refund of the tour cost, adult refund is $160 NZ, youth refund is $150 NZ and a child refund is $140. We cannot offer a 100% refund as the Hobbiton Movie set does not offer any refund in such circumstances.
The tour will operate with a minimum of 4 people.
Cancellation Policy
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

Hobbiton Movie Set
We visit the World famous Movie set as used in both the Lord Of The Rings and the Hobbit movie trilogies. Your guide will lead you round the extensive movie set, showing you many of the Hobbit Holes before ending at the Green Dragon pub where you will receive a complimentary mug of ale.

5.00Haven’t read the books or seen the films then don’t worry, this place is awesome and you’ll be entranced by the scenery. The tour guide taking us to Hobbiton was an ex teacher and so knowledgeable with a calming manner. The tour guide at Hobbiton was great as well and everything runs to time but you’re not rushed. 5.00Great tour of the movie sets where they filmed Lord of the Rings movies. Tour Guide was very knowledgeable at the venue. You walk about 2 hours through the venue. The tour guide Brian from the cruise ship to the venue was very knowledgeable about the Tauranga area. The bus coach was very comfortable,

5.00Wonderful day at Hobbiton. Magical feeling to this little Hobbit village. Guides were awesome and the attention to detail was amazing for this “movie set.” Beautiful day and just amazing. Our bus driver Gary was excellent and gave lots of info about the area as we drove thru. Great experience.

5.00We had a great guide, Brian, who narrated our ride from port to Hobbiton. He gave us interesting info on the area and New Zealand. Once at Hobbiton, our guide was Rachel. She was fun. Hobbiton was absolutely beautiful. You really felt like you were in the real world of the Shire.
Bus guides not accommodating

5.00Make sure u call the excursion company ahead so u and ur friends are together on same bus. They would not make any changes when we got to bus. They have several of them leaving at different times and our party was split up. Not at all accommodating even if another couple was willing to switch buses with us.

5.00Hobbiton must not be missed! Our cruise excursion had filled up by the time we were able to book, so we looked to Viator, and are so glad we did! We received the exact excursion we would have if booking with the cruise line, for a fraction of the price. The pick-up from the terminal was very well organized. We loaded onto a large bus for the trip through the beautiful countryside to the magical set of Hobbiton. Our driver, Gary, regaled us with stories and information about that part of New Zealand, and snuck in a couple of extra stops when time allowed. Highly recommend this tour!
