For a non LOTR fan, Hobbiton was great!! Very interactive and great views and photo opportunities. Not sure lunch was worth it as it was half a sandwich and some sides… we also had to eat on the bus after the caves visit.

easy meet up for bus ride, we were given a water bottle and a snack upon boarding, another water bottle and lunch (chicken or vegetarian options) later in the day. great commentary during bus ride including NZ History, landmarks, culture, recommendation to try local foods and snacks: Tip Top ice cream, minced meat pies, Hokey Pokey ice cream, Pokeno bacon fr Mercer. I was able to try the first 3 during my visit and I was not disappointed. Sun was out for Hobbiton. the sun rays are strong so a hat, sunscreen, or use of umbrellas they provide are beneficial. I didn’t use any and my face/neck were sunburned at the end of the day. Definitely beautiful grounds. Food at the Shire’s rest cafe was tasty as well. waitomo caves started with a mini walking tour through caves. There were a few staircases with rails. We then boarded boats to explore the glow works in the caves, it was magical! No photos in the caves as they may scare the worms and they will stop glowing for a good amount of time.

We really enjoyed both stops and highly recommend the tour. Our driver Marty was very entertaining and made the long drives more bearable

Had a fabulous time at Hobbiton our hobbit guide Rob made sure we had a good experience even when we had a bit of rain. Lovely place to visit, enjoyed the drink in the pub to relax at the end. Waitomo caves and glow worms were beautiful and it was lovely to learn about the cave. The bus guide was helpful with information the whole trip.

Great trip, great guides. The trip left on time to Waitomo Caves. Our driver was safe, entertaining, and full of great information. The caves and Hobbiton do not disappoint. Beautiful drive, and great tours. Lunch was adequate. There are places along the way to buy snacks or other food. Worth saying that I was on this trip alone. I was between business trips and found myself with a free weekend in Aukland. Great trip solo. I was not the only one. Don’t miss out.
