An excellent morning out for a great price! I was a little nervous initially as I was by myself, but soon felt at ease Yam showed me round the market and a wood carving workshop before heading to the river for a coconut boat trip and crab fishing! Then for the cooking course where I made 4 lovely dishes! Highly recommend

There were just the two of us, and Tam (the chef) and a friend of his picked us up on motorcycles. After a 10–15 minute ride, they dropped us off at the bamboo boat. To be honest, we didn’t need the boat ride, but it was still calming since there was no one else on the river. Afterwards, Tam picked us up again and we drove to the cooking class. The recipes and instructions were great, and the food tasted delicious. We especially liked the fact that we cooked recipes that weren’t widely available at restaurants or food stalls in the city. Thank you to Tam for being a good instructor. At the end, you can choose to be dropped back at your hotel or at the night market.

Tam was a wonderful host. He came and picked us up from our Hotel and took us the markets first, then on a lovely ride through the countryside to the boat ramp. Crabbing was an amazing experience with a local fisherman. Tam then took us to our cooking class where we cooked a delicious authentic meal together.

The cooking class was so awesome and fun. My three friends and I got to row in coconut boats, fish for crabs (we didn’t catch any but the coconut boat ladies did) and cooked a full meal for $30 in under three hours. It was like a private class was so fun and we all got equal participation. Tam was so kind and funny- and his sister was so hospitable it was a great time. Perfect for anyone tired of busy tourist attractions who wants a more intimate and fun experience.

Fantastic. I met Tam just outside the old town in Hoi An and was included in a nice small group. We took a walk through the local market place to buy ingredients and meet the local people. It’s definitely not a visit to the supermarket but i love smelling all the fresh herbs and seeing different foods. Then a short drive out into the countryside to learn about rice harvesting before getting into the tiny round coconut boats. I loved that we were alone and away from the tourists, just floating quietly along the canal in search of crabs. Our very friendly boatman made sure we each got a chance to paddle and spin the boat (be careful, you get very dizzy but its only a few seconds). Tried fishing for crabs but i think they were all hiding. Then a short motorcycle ride through the country lanes to a family kitchen where we learnt how to prepare some delicious and very fresh salads, grilled eggplant (my favourite) and stir fried noodles. Oh so healthy and yum, yum, yum. A thoroughly enjoyable morning and i highly recommend this tour over the more commercial ones. A great chance to learn about local life in Vietnam.
