Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
The Red Rock area has a complex geological history, which over millions of years, helped create the region's dramatic landscape. Red Rock Canyon features a one-way 13-mile scenic drive, trails, plants and wildlife and amazing geology. The conservation area showcases a set of large red rock formations: a set of sandstone peaks and walls that were formed by thrust faults including the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3,000 feet (910 m) high, making them a popular hiking destination. The highest point is La Madre Mountain, at 8,154 feet (2,485 m). The first humans were attracted to the Red Rock area due to its resources of water, plant, and animal life that could not be easily found in the surrounding desert. Hunters and gatherers such as the historical Southern Paiute and the much older Archaic, or Desert Culture Native Americans, have successively occupied this area. Numerous petroglyphs, as well as pottery fragments, remain today throughout the area.
The Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center is an informational hub for visitors filled with indoor and outdoor exhibits, plant specimens from throughout the canyon, and live Desert Tortoise habitats. Restrooms are also available here if needed.

Robert was helpful and friendly. Had a lot of knowledge about our stops. Only issue we had with the tour was being last hotel pickup left only rear seats as a choice. My boyfriend is 6’3” so was a little cramped. Otherwise a great experience!

The trip was great. The only negative thing was the seating. We had to sit in the back row so we could sit together, and there was no leg room. My husband ‘s knees pushed against the seat ahead of him the whole time. There were only three of us sitting in the back row, but supposedly it was meant for four. It would have been VERY crowded if there had been a 4th person. It would have made for a very uncomfortable trip.

It was a great experience! We went to Red Rocks Canyon, saw the Petroglyph wall when we went on a hike, saw the Hoover Dam and took a tour inside. Went all the way to the bottom in the tunnels to see what makes it all work and then saw the power plant. The only recommendation I have is that you allow more time for those people who purchased the tour inside. It was extra money and we did not have enough time; felt like we were short changed on that part. There were multiple groups going down to the bottom and you had to wait for the elevators, which ate up a lot of time. As a result, we had no time to go into the museum or gift shop and no time to walk outside and take pics at the level of the bridge crossing the dam. It left us running for the bus to get back in time! Otherwise, the tour was great. The tour guide was great. I would recommend taking the tour.

This was my 4th trip to the area but 1st time under the Hoover Dam. Red Rock Canyon is beautiful and there is always something new to see. Kevin, our guide, was knowledgeable and friendly. More time should be considered at the Dam.

Was canceled the night before for maintenance too late to make alternative tour. Only offered a grand canyon(which I’ve already done) or a later date after we’ve left Vegas. So no idea how actual tour was. Very disappointed as this was my #1 thing to do on this trip

Great tour, comfortable bus, a good amount of hiking and time to explore different places. I booked through viatour and it advertised it would be done by noon but it’s more like 2:30-3. It wasn’t a problem for us. I would recommend to anyone looking for a day outside the city
