We liked the food along the trip, very rich buffet with Andean local products and Peruvian cuisine, very happy with this part. The trek towards the lake is challenging at some parts but our guide helped us getting horses. The lake colours are impressive greens and the ensemble with the views of the glacier is simply superb! Highly recommended for people who love a workout and trekking Mountains.

We took this trek on our extra day in Cusco. And it is absolutely breath-taking! The pick up is very early and it is a bit cold at that time. The tour was vey well organised, the breakfas and lunch were amazing! Specially the Lunch at the Salkantay Casa, with a buffet of andean produce, unique experience that is worth its own tour! The hike is challenging at some points but not too long. Humantay lake is definitely the best day trip we did ! The turquoise colours are splendid and the views of Glaciers very moving! Another success for this guy Kontiki, they know what they do!

It's a great day excursion from Cusco even with the other groups. We went on the full day with Kontiki hikes. The trail is steep just before arriving to the lake. Moist and littered with very strong horse droppings. There are many various trail offshoots, have fun with these. Advanced hikers: the tour groups generally understand people go at different paces. So you will have about 2.75 hours before they count people and start the group's decent. If you can summit the lake in 45-50 min, I highly recommend climbing the beautiful ridge to the right. It's steep, and vivid in spots, and no real trails other than the grazing animal paths. I took it all the way up to the rock face(another 35+ minutes) where the views are great. Had I known about the extra time,(they said 1.5hr for hike, 30 min at the lake) I would have made it onto the Glaciers. (More exciting and closer to the sacred Apus) On your way down, after you've meet with your party, you can get in another great view of the area by hoping over the hogback on your left (facing down) and coming in on the other side of the hill and river. (Bonus: no crowded path, and you can sneak in an extra kilometer or two of pretty emotional scenery) I had to go aways up to find a good spot to jump the river, but found a bunch of cool minerals and other unique local plants and beautiful unique birds along the way.) If you're with Kontiki hikes, Lunch is a hearty and EXQUISITE buffet, so that helps! The 3.5 hour bus ride is the only long part.

The hike upwards with horses was an adventure! At some point the horses couldn’t keep going due to the steep and terrain, so the guide pullled them a bit. Epic! It was a fantastic trip with delicious food at the Casa Salkantay! The buffet was Simply beautiful! The lake is very turquoise and feels magical. I recommend to bring layers as it might get rainy and the departure is really early so really cold but as the day goes it may get also very sunny and warm! It’s a great hike tigers stunning views moderate challenge! Best experience with full day tours in Cusco! Kontiki Hikes is the way to go!

We had an amazing tour. We rented horses at the starting point of the hike and this helped us to climb the very steep road. Weather was perfect but we would have appreciated to be offered a vegan option for the meals. We asked for a vegan option but we were offered vegetarian and this was a bit annoying. I recommend this company. They speak very good English and always helpful to solve enquiries.
