The hunter trails will start with trek from Ban Prang village, 35km away from the town to the south. The first part of the hike we walk up steep hills, along rice fields and witness villagers working in the field. We will head deeper into the forest and walk mainly along the ridge-line, enjoying stunning viewpoints. We will eat a locally prepared lunch under the huge trees. Soon we will climb up the next mountain and through the dense jungle. Your guide will explain about the use of the wild plants and herbs and point out any wildlife that might be around. Next, we walk down to the stream to find the best location to set up our camp nearby the peaceful stream. You may relax or help your guide cook dinner, learning about the use of bamboo and local food. After dinner enjoy the stars and the tranquil sounds before going to sleep.

Then we will hike down to the village of Ban Nalan located on the Namha river bank, where the villagers will prepare a bed for us. At the village you can relax, take a swim, hang out with the local people or help to cook the food for dinner. End the night sitting around the campfire, exchanging stories with the local people.

Villagers always wake up early, so be prepared for an early start! Take a walk around the village to see how the village people prepare for their day. Watch them do farm work, or doing their bamboo weaving work. After eating breakfast, it’s time for us to depart from the village (around 9 AM local time) and hike to visit the next village of Ban Nam Koi (Lantan tribe). It’s a tiny village located on the riverbank, and it is very famous for making bamboo paper and indigo dying. We will spend some time there before heading over the mountain. We will walk until we arrive to the Lantan village of Ban Nam Lue located nearby the main road. This is where we end the trekking trip. Our transport will be waiting to bring us back to town in the late afternoon.

We were looking for a trek to do with my friend. We find the Hiker and we were very happy. Our trek was our favorite activity of our Laos tour. Noy, our guide was the best guide I have ever had in trekking in general. He adapted his speed to ours during walking time. The best about it was that he was a very good cooker : he permitted us to discover real and authentic Lao food. Finally we felt very safe with him deep in the jungle. We recommend to engage in the kayaking activity in the last day as we could fully enjoy the landscape. Thank you The Hiker and Noy !!

Great experience, back to basics. Especially our tour guide Xai was fantastic. The food was amazing, as well as the explanations about the nature, the area, and the animals.

An experience perfectly tailored to my interests. 3 days of Hunter Trails with one night in the jungle and one in Muang Sing so we could start there early in the morning. Hike about 10 km each on the first two days. Many thanks to my excellent guide Peng!!

Overall, we enjoyed our 3 day hike on the Hunter Trail. The food was definitely the highlight, both food brought with from the market and especially that foraged while hiking. The hike had a good variety of scenery between the fields and village life to primary and secondary forest. A couple of things we thought could be improved. There was the lack of basic camping education such as leave no trace principles, which was definitely needed in our group of mixed experience. There were a few camps used by The Hiker that had toilet paper and plastic wrappers left behind. Although our guides, Noy and Puon, did a good job of cleaning up plastic along the way. When we arrived at the village there was no introduction to our host family nor explanation of appropriate social interactions which left a bit of guessing on our part. In hindsight we should have asked for clarification.

Finally a hike that keeps its promise. The first two days were 7 hours of hiking (including short breaks), quite a bit up and down, in different forests. On the third day, 30 km of kayaking through beautiful primary jungle was also great. The food was very good and varied (I chose vegetarian) and the guides did a great job too. I'm choosing THE HIKER again!

This is the third time I have been on a trekking tour with The Hiker. Everything is arranged individually. Many organizations have at least 8 people. The Hiker keeps the groups small. There is always a tour guide and a local guide who knows the area very well. The food is freshly cooked and is absolutely amazing. I have already booked several trekking tours with other organizations but The Hiker beats them all. The guides are very knowledgeable and explain a lot. They make sure that safety is guaranteed and you just feel like you are in good hands. Tom has a really great team and most of the tour guides have been working there for years and with passion. Xai was the tour guide this time and I was very satisfied as always. I can recommend The Hiker to everyone. Thanks again to the team and I will be back

We were only two people so the price was a bit higher, but we really had the best time during this trek! We had a wonderful guide named Mun who was explaining us a lot about the nature and the culture of the tribes in Laos. He was born on the country side and that really made for interesting talks. He was following our pase and was very helpful. Hiker is really a good company. They work with local guides and support the villages in that way. The villagers get income from the tourists and take better care of the forest because of it. The camping in the jungle was amazing and the village stay was so nice. We had great vegetarian food and a soft bed an musquito net. Hiker may be a little bit more expensive but it is really a fare company. If you pay less it is not possible to do eco tourism, becouse then there is not enough money left to support everyone involved.

I (female, 30) chose the 3 day hunter trail. They informed me that in rain season the trek is hard, but in dry season the trek is moderate. I think that's fair. Just like the hike ciudad perdida in Colombia, there is some steep climbing and descending every day, but also more even parts. The difference is that these paths are very small and covered in leaves (which makes is a little slippery, even when dry). The first night in the jungle was really cold (the sleeping bag is really thin), but in the village we were provided with warm blankets. Overall the trekking was really nice! The guides got a lot of food from the jungle, prepared it on a fire and served it on banana leaves. They explained us about the jungle and about life in the villages. A great experience that I would definitely recommend!

We were on the hunting trails tour for three days with Noy, Puon (?) and other guides from The Hiker. It got us sweating (steep mountains), but it was a lot of fun! We hiked 6-7 hours per day (including breaks). You should bring a little bit of hiking experience, good shoes and some basic fitness. We received a lot of exciting information about plants, animals, history and culture and ate delicious local food. Thanks for the great time!
