The slow group will mostly walk and the faster group will ride at a faster pace. If you like to gallop we recommend our exclusive horseback riding tour. We recommend that children under the age of 12 stay in the slower group with their guardians unless they are used to riding horses. Our stables are located a short 20-minute drive outside of Reykjavik’s city center. This horseback riding tour is a perfect way to experience the versatility of Icelandic nature in only 2 hours.

This excursion was incredible. If you are looking for an opportunity to connect with Iceland’s beautiful landscape and the incredible Icelandic horses, this is the excursion for you! You are able to learn about the horses, their different temperaments and personalities, through a beautiful guided tour. The staff was very enthusiastic to share the history of the area and the horses. Would 10/10 book again!

Great part of our Iceland tour. The staff were superb. Really friendly and positive. The reception area is gorgeous and the horses are really looked after and happy. We had a gorgeous ride over the lava fields as the sun came up. We were both a bit nervous but the staff were so helpful and we felt very comfortable very quickly. Wonderful company, cannot recommend highly enough. It was cold though so wrap up really well, but they also provide a snowsuit and have extra hats and gloves if needed.

What a fantastic experience! I'm pushing on in years and flexibility but needn't have worried. The staff were lovely, so patient and kind. It was a great way of seeing the lava fields, plus the horses were amazing. My horse was called Uncle, I can't remember his icelandic name but he lived up to his name looking after me, don't hesitate to go on a tour, it was fantastic! Thank you guys, Mike from England.

The horseback riding tour was great. We followed a few trails through some lava fields in the morning while everything was still frosty and the moon was still out. The two guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. They knew best practices, helmet sizes, and made you feel safe and confident riding highly recommend! Make sure you bundle up more than you think because it’s 2 hours of riding at a walking speed and then a faster pace on the way back if you choose to go with the faster group.

We did this tour the morning before our evening flights, as did most of our group since almost all of the North American flights take off around 5pm. It's ~25 minutes from downtown Reykjavík and our 9am pickup/12:30pm dropoff at Bus Stop #12 was easy and prompt. This is pretty much the only thing that would've fit before we had to get to the airport so if you're looking to jam one more experience into your trip this is it. Once on premises we watched a safety video, geared up, and were assigned horses based on experience. I have only done pony rides previously so it was still a bit intimidating to walk my horse out and then control her during the ride, but I eventually figured it out. I borrowed boots, waterproof pants and a jacket, a neck gaiter, and a helmet. They had (pretty attractive) snowsuits as well. I'd highly recommend taking advantage of this to stay warm and to protect your own clothes, especially your shoes/boots! This is a rain or shine excursion and it did start to rain when we got back. During the ride it was often hard to hear the guide over the wind but otherwise a nice 1 hour ride. We had a group of about 13 visitors. The guides take photos of everyone during a rest break about a third of the way through the ride. The photo part felt a bit rushed and the people who posed earliest def got the best photos, but they do take the time to move the horses together if you came with a group. For the trotting portion I originally said I'd go slow but a guide recommended I go "fast," so I did. It was fun (when my dear horse Regina cooperated, she didn't want to go fast when her friend horse wasn't and I wasn't being strict enough with her) but I don't think being in the "slow" group is worse, especially if you're unsure. Our "slow" group apparently went "fast" a bit at the end. I was definitely sore the next day (6 hours flight didn't help!) but recovered after that, and I'm glad we did it. The coffee/hot chocolate situation isn't much but they did offer to-go cups for those of us taking the shuttle back.

First we thought it was expensive but once we tried it, we quickly understood why. They put so much care and effort to making this experience unforgettable. Our family truly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend.

My daughters (20 and 17) did this tour today and had a fabulous time. They were picked up and dropped off 2 minutes from our hotel. Given that it’s a cold, windy, rainy day, it was wonderful that they were provided with waterproof and warm outerwear along with a helmet. They loved their horses and I love that they were each offered options that suited their skill level — my older went with the beginning group and had an easy ride. My younger, who has a little more experience and was excited to experience the unique gaits of the Islandic horses, was able to go with the more advanced group. Despite the weather they came back to me safe and very happy with their experience! I will also say before our visit I reached out to the stable via email with questions, and I got prompt and helpful responses. Highly recommend!!
