What To Expect
Stiftung Neue Synagoge Berlin - Centrum Judaicum
Your walk begins at the remaining foundations of the so-called Old Synagogue, where your guide, a Jewish Studies scholar, helps you to grasp the challenges faced by German Jews during the middle ages and renaissance and to appreciate the rich cultural life developed by Berlin’s Jewish community in spite of their vulnerable status.
Auguststrasse was once alive with Jewish institutions, for just one example the Jewish Girls’ School undertaken between 1927 and 1928. The school building, located at Auguststraße 11-13, is historical monument built by architect Alexander Beer, characterised by the New Objectivity style. Today it is home to an exhibit hall and a coffee shop that are well worth a visit.

5.00Our private walking tour of Jewish Berlin with Martin was the highlight of our trip to Germany. Martin was extremely knowledgeable, totally fluent in English, had a wonderful sense of humor, and by the end of the tour we felt we had not only learned a great deal, but had made a new friend. I have had several friends plan trips to Berlin and I have always recommended Martin. I simply cannot say enough about our wonderful day with him. Solemn at times, necessarily so given the history, but also enlightening and fun.

5.00Our friendly and knowledgeable guide Nadav Jakob met us at the hotel for a private afternoon walk including several minor rides by buss, S- and U-bahn because of the nonstop rain. Despite the weather and very much thanks to Nadav Jakob we had an informative and at times emotionally haunting walk experience.
