Mobile ticket

Sail in the waters of the Adriatic, departing from the Gargano port of Vieste and reaching the Tremiti Islands.

Arrived you will disembark to discover the small town of San Nicola, the "Salizada" connects the port to the village where the Benedictine Abbey of S. Maria a Mare stands, which attest to the importance of the strategic position of the Tremiti Islands over the centuries.

Or you can reach the Island of San Domino, a paradise where you can admire the biodiversity of flora and fauna, getting lost among small coves and picturesque views. From here you will start exploring Cala Matano, Cala degli Inglesi, Cala Tonda and especially Cala delle Arene, sandy and with a more generous size than the others.

Included in the price there is a boat tour between the islands, lasting about 1 hour, which shows by sea the coast of the main islands with a stop in one of the most picturesque coves.

What To Expect

1

San Nicola

The island of San Nicola, the "Montecassino of the Adriatic", the only example of an abbey-fortress on an island, has been a crossroads of cultures and religions for millennia which have made it an extraordinary example of dialogue between various eras. You cannot get to the Tremiti and not visit the ancient village.

San Domino

San Domino is the largest of the archipelago of the Tremiti Islands and certainly the most beautiful for the landscape aspects, called by the friars "The Garden of Paradise"; It is covered by a characteristic pine forest of Aleppo pines, which can be easily visited by following the equipped paths, passing through the typical plants of the Mediterranean scrub such as myrtle, rosemary, phillyrea, mastic and juniper. Cala Matano is a beautiful natural inlet which, descending overhanging the sea, leaves a small cove on the bottom, which can be accessed from above thanks to a path. Its name comes from the duchess of the same name. It is equipped with umbrellas and deck chairs. Then there are Cala dello Spido, Cala degli Inglesi, Cala dei Benedettini, Cala Tamariello and Cala Tonda, beautiful to see because it forms a suggestive lake. Cala delle Arene is the only sandy beach of a certain size in the Tremiti archipelago.

Beware of online bookings, because the shipping company that operates the route to the Tremiti Islands overbooks and you risk being grounded despite having booked your ticket online weeks in advance. Unfortunately to protect their commercial interests they have no qualms about canceling your programs and any reservations that are related on the islands. I suggest you take your ticket a few days before directly at the port because they have unfair commercial agreements with the various agencies that sell many more tickets than the statistical percentage.

The place is lovely definitely but visiting DA Vieste by boat with round trip solution in the same day plus sightseeing around the islands is for me a bad solution. The feeling in the end was to make 3 hours total by ferry and then be tossed between the two main islands without a welcome and valid tourist options, basically abandoned in two marinas where in one you can only see the abbey (practically a construction site, I'm not kidding) reached via a mule track where it is very easy to slip - eye better shoes with soles than sandals or slippers. To tell the truth from the abbey you can see a wonderful view, this is beautiful. Yeah. After the boat takes you to the other island where I hoped to see beautiful places and take an unforgettable swim. Honestly, I felt fooled instead. There wasn't even a place in the shade to have a sandwich. I did the swim in the only beach available that was full for the totality of paid beaches (but to do what if they are in natural paradise?). So I found myself bivouacking with my unfortunate companions of this tourist misadventure as desperate means... To say: in the end you are coming DA Vieste and already the bath you take in Marina Piccola is 10 times better. What did you do to all that ferry hours and hours? There will definitely be wonderful DA sights and you are stuck in a sandy beach in the middle of the crowd... but what is it? At this point you understand something that no one has told you: to enjoy the island you have to put your hand to your wallet again and rent a boat / dinghy to go see places that are definitely lovely, but here is the beauty! If you chose to see the abbey, to take the boat ride (very missable, you didn't expect anything) and the tourist stunt of diving from the boat to catch a glimpse of the submerged statue of Padre Pio (I don't care, maybe someone likes it), in short, if you have wasted time doing these things now you have a couple of hours left, so even if you want to save the day (perhaps) by renting a dinghy you would have very little time. In short: before venturing into this "dream" of the Tremiti islands, think about what kind of tourist you are. If you just need to take a dip to see the statue of Padre Pio and take a couple of photos in the crowd to say you have been to Tremiti DA put on Instagram, then fine. Otherwise, consider NOT DOING the sightseeing but renting as soon as you arrive a rubber boat or contacting people who will show you interesting places maybe already in the days before, find out where they will make you STOP for bathing and diving and for how long - this makes all the difference in the world. I noticed that another gentleman reviewed the experience DA Peschici reporting some considerations quite similar to mine strangely just today! Think about it, I have had my say in conscience!
