What To Expect
Caldeira das Sete Cidades
The dirt trail tracing the rim of the Sete Cidades crater is an iconic feature of this breathtaking Azorean landscape. Winding along the edge of this massive volcanic caldera, the path offers some of the most spectacular and sought-after views in the Azores. This unpaved trail varies in width and condition, offering a more natural and rugged hiking experience compared to paved roads. As you follow it, the panorama unfolds continuously. On one side, the vast expanse of the crater floor stretches out, often shrouded in mist or patchwork with green pastures. On the other, the dramatic drop reveals the two legendary lakes – the vibrant green Lagoa Verde and the deep blue Lagoa Azul – potentially joined by a thin strip of land or water, depending on the season and viewpoint.

5.00Our guide, Ricardo, went above and beyond for us to have a good experience! He’s knowledgeable, charming and has an easy way with guests. The tour was wonderful! Being in a jeep meant we saw things you wouldn’t in a car. I would book with Greenzone again anytime!

5.00This experience allowed us to see a good portion of this beautiful island by hitting many spots of interest. Sergio was an outstanding tour guide and very knowledgeable, as well as accommodating of any special requests. Definitely a must do when you’re only able to stay a few days on São Miguel.

5.00Our group went on three tours while in Sao Miguel. Although all of them were 5 star, this one was the best. The sites were absolutely stunning and the off roading was fun. Our guide, Sergio, was excellent. He was accommodating and helpful. As other reviewers have mentioned, this tour is weather dependent. The weather changes frequently on the island and cloud cover could detract from the views. We had a clear day and Mother Nature cooperated so the sights were breathtaking. Don’t miss this tour on your vacation to Sao Miguel. It was amazing.

5.00Amazing experience and way to see the Azores! We had Eduardo as our guide and he was absolutely phenomenal, making the day a lot of fun while sharing his in-depth knowledge of the island and its history. He is one of the best guides I've ever had and really made the tour unforgettable. The sights were also beautiful and I'd definitely want to see them again or do a similar tour if I'm ever back here. Would absolutely recommend!

5.00"The visit to the Seven Cities and Fire Lagoon, with my wife and daughters, was great! The guide, Sergio, was quite attentive and friendly, in addition to being very motivated to share the history and geology of the island, as well as the local flora and fauna. We were lucky to have a clear view of the viewpoints after the rise and crash to the Seven Cities. The lunch was a remarkable gastronomic experience besides we arrived and served in minutes before the arrival of the “multitude”, a master strategy by our guide. The stop at Lagoa do Fogo also had a perfect management, as it ended minutes before the fog settled. Overall, the pace of the visit was very appropriate and with time to appreciate each view. Briefly, the views were spectacular. A truly pleasant day to explore the landscapes of São Miguel with the family!

From the moment we set off, his energy, humor, and deep knowledge of the island made the experience unforgettable. Sergio took us off the beaten path to hidden viewpoints, lush green valleys, and volcanic craters that looked straight out of a postcard. He shared fascinating stories about the island’s history, geology, and culture, and even managed to time our stops perfectly for the best weather and photo opportunities.
