Swoyambhu Mahachaitya
The Swoyambhunath Temple, also known as the Swoyambhunath Stupa or Monkey Temple, is one of the most significant and ancient religious sites in Nepal. Located atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, it is a major pilgrimage destination for both Buddhists and Hindus. The stupa, which dates back over 2,000 years, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is renowned for its distinctive architecture, including the large dome and all-seeing eyes of Buddha painted on the structure. Swayambhunath is considered a self-existent monument, with a rich history and spiritual significance in Nepalese culture. The site also offers panoramic views of the surrounding Kathmandu Valley. The area surrounding the stupa is inhabited by numerous monkeys, contributing to its colloquial name, "Monkey Temple."
Patan Durbar Square
Patan Durbar Square is a historic royal palace complex located in the heart of Lalitpur, also known as Patan, in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its stunning display of ancient Newar architecture, intricate wood and metal craftsmanship, and cultural heritage. The square is home to numerous temples, shrines, and the royal palace, which served as the residence of the Malla kings. Key attractions within the complex include the Hiranya Varna Mahavihar, Mahabouddha Temple, and the iconic three-story Krishna Mandir. The square is a hub of religious and cultural activities, reflecting the rich history and artistic traditions of the region. Patan Durbar Square continues to be an important symbol of Nepal's architectural and cultural legacy.

I recently visited Kathmandu and stayed at the Madhuban Hotel. Upon our arrival, Laxman warmly welcomed me, making me feel at home and helping us start to understand this extraordinary place. Although our stay was short, Laxman's guidance and advice gave me valuable insights and let me truly experience the unique energy of Kathmandu. I booked a 2-day Kathmandu tour with his agency, Adventure Bound, which made our experience much richer. I doubt we could have connected with the city this deeply on my own. I am deeply grateful for Laxman's help and look forward to returning to Kathmandu again.

I arranged a tour from Kathmandu to Nagarkot to watch the sunrise, hike to Changu Narayan, and then visit Bhaktapur. The guide, Raj, was very knowledgeable and took me to some local shops, which was nice! Next time I'll definitely join a trekking tour!
