What To Expect

Swaymbhunath

Swayambhunath Temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, is one of the most sacred and iconic religious sites in Kathmandu, Nepal. Located on a hilltop overlooking the city, this ancient Buddhist shrine dates back to the 5th century and is believed to have been created by the legendary saint Manjushree. The temple complex consists of a large stupa, shrines, monasteries, and various prayer wheels and flags. It is adorned with colorful prayer flags and is surrounded by monkeys, which are considered to be holy by the locals. Visitors can climb a long flight of stairs to reach the top of the hill and explore the various structures in the temple complex. The view from the top is spectacular, with panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley. The temple is also a popular spot for locals and visitors to practice meditation and to watch the sunrise or sunset.

Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most sacred Hindu temples in the world and is located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to have been built in the 5th century. The complex consists of several temples, ashrams, and shrines, as well as a sacred bathing ghats for the purification of the soul. The temple is known for its elaborate architecture and intricate carvings, which depict various Hindu gods and goddesses. Visitors can observe the daily rituals and ceremonies that take place at the temple, including the aarti ceremony, which involves the offering of lamps to the deity. The temple is also home to many sadhus, or holy men, who live in the surrounding ashrams and practice meditation and yoga.

This trip to Nepal was truly unforgettable, and it’s all thanks to The Great Adventure Treks and Expedition. I traveled to Kathmandu for a conference and visited the World Heritage sites, but the most impressive sightseeing was the early morning mountain flight at 5:15 to see the Himalayas. My wife walks with crutches and was taken good care of, especially on the last day when her feet got swallowed badly, Mani kindly arranged her to receive the best medical treatment in the local international hospital. She had a CT, received effective medication, and was released after an overnight stay. The best travel agents are those who really care about their clients!
