When my guy and I were planning a trip to Hawaii, the helicopter tour was at the top of his list. We had both done this tour before with other people, but this was something we wanted to do together. And since we had both flown with Blue Hawaiian before, we knew that we wanted to fly with them again. We were able to easily book our flights online once we got to the island and looked at the weather for the week. We picked a day that was supposed to be clear and we ended up having a beautiful day. We paid extra for the front seats. I sat next to our pilot Marshall. who was fabulous. My guy sat to my right and had what I thought was the best view in the house. He was able to get lots of beautiful pictures without a lot of glare. Sitting in the middle made it a little bit more difficult for me because I had a lot of glare and a lot of my pictures had the console. I was able to cut a lot of it out, but his pictures were definitely better than mine. I also took a lot of movies and so we opted not to buy the recording that they film for you. On my last trip 15 years ago, I bought the recording and I don’t ever remember opening the CD box. The seating is comfortable, with 2 seats in the front and up to 4 in the back. Everyone wears headsets so you can hear the narration given by the pilot. You also have a mic so that you can ask questions and have a conversation back-and-forth that everyone can hear. That conversation is also part of the recording being done. The flight itself was just under an hour long. It took you all around the island. The views were stunning. My favorites were the waterfalls, also called the Jurassic Falls, and the Nepali Coast. In the helicopter, you get to see so many sides that you cannot see from the or a boat. Yes, it is pricey, but it was definitely worth it. You won’t be sorry spending the money making this memory.

I chose Blue Hawaiian because of past experiences. I grew up going to Hawaii multiple times. When I was young my parents took me and my brother on three Blue Hawaiian tours. From my memory and that of my parents, we remembered the tours to be spectacular. So when it was time for my boyfriend and I to pick a helicopter ride for my boyfriend’s first trip to Hawaii, we went with Blue Hawaiian. We were left with complete and utter disappointment. The tour itself was just okay, very short and bumpy. I completely understand that weather and wind patterns makes all the difference in your ride and that would be okay if the rest of the experience wasn’t ruined by Blue Hawaiians “policies”. Blue Hawaiian felt the need to charge me over 200 dollars for a “comfort seat” since my boyfriend weighed in at “250 lbs”. Knowing there would be a weight limit my boyfriend weighed himself before he left Pennsylvania- weighing in at 239 lbs. just meeting Blue Hawaiian’s 240 lb limit. The unfriendly, unprofessional and rude attendant at the desk told my boyfriend that he was “ 10 pounds over the limit”. How someone can gain 11 pounds in less than a week is beyond me, but wanting him to have the best experience, we paid the fee. The kicker of this story is that the next day, we went on a mountain tubing excursion, where we needed to be weighed. My boyfriend weighed in at 240 pounds. THE VERY NEXT DAY!! It must be a weight loss miracle straight from God that he was able to lose 10 pounds over night. It’s sickening that Blue Hawaiian feels like they need to take advantage of tourists who just want to see the beautiful island. They should be ashamed that they are tipping their scales to make a few extra dollars when it’s more than a financial stretch to book this tour in the first place. Also, we weren’t shown the number on the scale, we had to take the word of the unpleasant attendant This was supposed to be the highlight of our trip, our biggest expense by far excluding flight and lodging. This excursion ended up being over 1,000 dollars for a 45 minute flight that was not even recorded. With no explanation our flight ended up not being recorded, even though Blue Hawaiian states that every flight is recorded and available for purchase. The same attendant at the desk had no explanation or empathy for the couple who took no pictures at all during their tour, having prepaid for the recording. I did reach out to Blue Hawaiian’s email about my experience and concerns, and received no response. My advice to anyone looking for a helicopter tour, especially someone who is heavier, is to FIND A DIFFERENT COMPANY! Blue Hawaiian only cares about money and scamming tourists.

This was an amazing ride seeing such beautiful scenery up close! The captain explained our sights well and was very personable. The office staff was great. We selected this tour for their safety record. They’re celebrating 40 years in service. My husband was nervous hoing and everyone was very reassuring. Highly recommend!!

We had an incredible 50 minute ride! Our pilot was so knowledgeable and shared lots of info with us. He also was a great pilot - our ride was very smooth. It was not a bit scary (for those of you who might wonder if it is). I would definitely go again.
