Virgin Islands Ecotours focuses very appropriately on client safety -- and on ensuring you will have an enjoyable experience. I applaud them for this, and also wanted to alert people for their own planning that your trip may be cancelled if the water is rough -- which is what happened to us, twice. We were originally booked for Sunday afternoon, and they contacted us on Sunday to let us know the surf was too rough, so they were cancelling. They said that based on the forecast, the earliest we could rebook for would be Wednesday -- so we did that. Then late Tuesday night they let us know that they would need to cancel the Wednesday tour as well since the surf was still too rough. Since we were leaving on Thursday, we ultimately weren't able to go on this tour. I am glad that the company takes safety (and comfort -- avoiding seasickness) seriously, and I am not in any way faulting them for the cancellations -- and they immediately and easily gave us a full refund. But people should be aware that this trip may be cancelled and make contingency plans. I note that during this time with the rough surf we were able to go on a boat trip around St. John and snorkel from the boat in protected coves (boats are better on rougher surf than kayaks), and we were also able to visit a beach on the more-protected south side of the island and go snorkeling there.

My husband and I did the afternoon Kayak and snorkel trip on our trip to St John. I cannot say enough great things about our experience. Isabelle was our friendly and informative guide, talking about local history while we kayaked and helping ID different fish while snorkeling. Highly recommend this company and experience!

We really enjoyed our kayak tour with Patrick. He was patient and informative with our group of 12. We forgot a special hat and Patrick was quick to respond with a solution. We would highly recommend him and the company.

Patrick took several of us out to Caneel Bay and it was an amazing trip! Check-in was quick and easy, we started right on time. During the kayak part of the tour, he taught us a lot about the history and geography of the area as well what it's like to live on the islands. Once we got out to the bay, it wasn't long before we spotted our first sea turtle as well as some barracuda, cowfish, and a flying Gurnard, which was really cool to get to see. While we were snorkeling, someone on the beach had a serious neck injury and their friends couldn't reach emergency services. Patrick rushed over to help, got on his phone, and had medical care on-site as quickly as possible. He apologized for the interruption to the tour, but honestly everyone was just grateful he was there to help. It was very reassuring to know we were in safe hands if anything were to happen to someone in our tour group. I can't recommend him enough, thanks Patrick!

My wife and I really enjoyed this excursion. Patrick was an awesome tour guide with a wealth of information and history of St. John’s and the Virgin Islands that he shared with us while kayaking. During the snorkel portion, Patrick spotted and pointed out many different types of fish, several green turtles, a stingray and a giant hermit crab. This was the best snorkeling experience we’d had and would definitely do it again on a future trip to the Virgin Islands. Patrick even provided us with a great recommendation for a restaurant to have dinner at before catching the ferry back to St. Thomas. It was a perfect day on St. John’s.

Need to be in good physical condition as it requires paddling the kayak 1.5 miles to destination and 1.5 miles to return to starting point. Snorkeling also requires a good amount of energy. However, it’s so worth it! Seeing beautiful tropical fish, manta rays, sea turtles was totally amazing!!

Patrick and Brooke were the best tour guides ever. I had never kayaked before and they were able to lead us safely across the sea and it was so much fun! We also snorkeled and they were so knowledgeable and knew the exact spots to see turtles, stingrays, coral, and other sea life. The kayak back was a little tiring but I would 100% recommend if you are up for the challenge.
