What To Expect
Kinabatangan River
Our driver will pick you up at 12:00 pm from Sandakan airport or your Sandakan hotel lobby (town area). Proceed to Kinabatangan River. Cruise along Kinabatangan River. In search for some of the primate's species including the endemic Proboscis Monkey, birds and others wildlife. Transfer back to Sandakan airport or your respective hotel in Sandakan

5.00We got in the van unsure what to expect and after a long drive arrived at the boat excursion and tour and it was FANTASTIC! We saw the big five and the scenery was beautiful. Dinner was nice (roadside)

5.00I contacted Abdul Qayyam after seeing reviews on trip advisor. I was not disappointed. I explained to Abdul that a small group of us wanted to go to the Kinabatangan river in search of the 'big 5'. Abdul was most helpful in arranging this for us. He picked us up from our hotel (Jungle Resort) in Sepilok and drove us to the Kinabatangan River to start our cruise. The guide that Abdul used for the river tour was fantastic. He was able to spot so much wildlife - different monkeys, orangutan, crocodiles, rhinoceros hornbill, kingfisher etc. We had a fab time. After the tour Abdul then drove us back to another hotel we were stopping at. Abdul is a very polite, reliable, trustworthy person. He did a great job arranging this trip for us and making it one we will remember. I highly recommend him. His contact whatsapp number is +60 11-1669 5114.

5.00A fantastic experience. A professional and close guide at the same time, took us to see all the fauna of the river, we enjoyed a walk almost alone away from the organized groups of the lodges. Very prudent on the road trip and very good place for dinner
Experience hunting for wild animals on the Kinabatangan River

5.00The sighting of animals is not obvious except for the many monkeys but we were lucky and with a little patience we could see small medium and large crocodiles as well as birds. Chris was a pleasant guide, informed and attentive to our needs.

5.002 hour car ride from sandakan. Driver was very nice. Took a tiny fisherman style boat out in the river. Saw elephants and monkeys. Had a traditional dinner at a local restaurant in the way back. Awesome time! Wear a hat, sunscreen and a long sleeve sn shirt if you have one. Bring water too! It’s hot out there!

4.00For this activity and many others in the sector, we recommend the services of Azrien Alimuddin , mail: [email protected]. She is a pleasant, efficient and honest person. He organized for us tours over 4 days, with very good advice, and a car always on time, for very decent prices. And all this despite the monsoon that tarnished our experience on the Kinabatangan River. An excellent record for him, as an independent, and we thank him for it! (independent of MAM Holidays)

1.00I would love to write a review of this excursion, however we didn’t get to go on it. Everything appeared fine until the morning of the trip when the freelance travel operator contacted me to say the the travel agent MAM Holidays Malaysia had reduced their previously agreed price by 17%. This made it economically unviable for him, which I had great sympathy for. There was no contact made by MAM Holidays Malaysia to inform us of the situation or any attempt to arrange for another guide. We waited for 30mins to no avail. We are still waiting for the situation to be resolved i.e. full refund from Viator.

5.00We saw 5 elephants crossing the river, so lucky. And another 15 more on land, walking by the river. Plus a crocodile by the river, which dashed in into the river after a while. There was a group of proboscis monkey, and an even larger group of macaques. The boatmen were very accommodating. Our driver Abdul drove us here. He's reliable and super friendly, reasonable prices.
