Knappogue Castle was restored by the Andrew's family who very kindly allowed Shannon Heritage to use the Castle as a second venue for the growing numbers of tourist who wished to attend a banquet. From the outset quality was the objective. Professional producers, voice trainers and choreographers were employed and young Irish singers and musicians were trained to entertain to the highest standards.

Knappogue Castle
You are greeted at the main door of the castle by the Earl’s Butler and the Ladies of the castle where you proceed to the Dalcassian Hall. Mingle with the Castle Entertainers and savour a goblet of mead (honey wine). Enjoy music of the harp and fiddle followed by Medieval choral singing from the Ladies. The Earl’s Butler wittily recounts the history of the Castle finishing by explaining the ‘Rules of Chivalry’ practiced at Knappogue Castle and the dire consequences of breaching them! As locals, we’ve been bringing visitors to the medieval banquets every couple of years, and I always felt Knappogue had a special charm compared to Bunratty. The 2025 band continues the long tradition of genuine talent we’ve enjoyed since the early 2000s, and the new tap dancer is a remarkable addition. The “bottomless” wine jugs are still part of the fun, and the food remains fine. I also prefer their use of both fork and knife — more comfortable than Bunratty’s single-knife “medieval” approach! That said, the show has clearly been trimmed down over the years. There’s no longer a welcoming speech, and the mead reception feels rushed — a small, half-filled cup you can barely sip before being herded to the banquet room. The relaxed, easygoing pace that once defined Knappogue seems to have given way to tighter scheduling and quick turnarounds between tour buses. Prices have climbed steadily, and we booked this time only thanks to a special deal. It’s still a memorable night of entertainment, but I miss the slower, warmer atmosphere that used to make Knappogue feel truly special.

This castle isn’t just a landmark — it’s alive. The moment I stepped inside, the air shifted and the walls seemed to wake, as if something ancient had been waiting in silence. The evening itself was spellbinding — angelic singing that carried through the halls like a blessing, and dancing so pure that every click of his heels sent sparks through the floor. You could feel centuries stirring with every note and step. There’s a powerful, sacred energy here for anyone who listens beyond the echoes. Walk in with an open heart, and you might just feel the castle breathe again. 100 stars, endless awe. I was absolutely mesmerized and it wasn’t just from the mead !

So cute! Wish they would have something a little more for non wine drinkers. But the program was well worth the money. If you are a drinker than it’s a great deal.

So much fun! From the host to the singers to the dancer, very enjoyable! Seating is very tight. The food was delicious and all the employees so nice!

We were so disappointed with the food and drinks served. The wine was awful (I couldn’t drink it) and no option to buy anything else. My husband doesn’t drink wine and would have happily purchased a beer but that isn’t possible. When the coffee/tea was served I think the pot had one T bag between the whole table. I have never seen such weak tea. Also undrinkable. It was also unbearably hot in the room we were in. Desperately needed windows opened or fans.

This is always a highlight of any trip to Ireland. Terrific entertainment, food, drink and service. There's not a person who wouldn't enjoy every minute of this banquet. The talent of the performers is amazing.

A fantastic evening for three generations of my family. My elderly father has had three strokes and has extremely limited mobility, this event was perfect for him as well as hugely amusing our 12 and 14 year old daughters. Una and her team took wonderful care of my father, finding him seats, giving him a hand walking into dinner, seating him with easy access to the bathrooms and some support for his back, they were so thoughtful and kind, he had an absolute blast. The setting is a dramatic 500 year old castle with lovely grounds, arrive around 15 minutes early to collect your tickets from the box office (you MUST pre-book), welcome drinks of mead or fruit juice are served in pottery cups in the ancient hall to violin and celtic harp music and you are welcomed to the evening by your host, the high king's butler, Tom. There is some fun with four couples being appointed king and queen of each of Ireland's ancient kingdoms and this adds a bit of drama to the evening and lifts the atmosphere. There were three big coach groups the night we visited but it is also great for family bookings like us who aren't in a group. Guests then proceed into the banquet hall and sit on benches at long tables with a high table and a stage visible to all. Each course is served with entertainment and some fun role play, there is music, Irish dancing and traditional songs. There are large jugs of wine, water and juice on each table as well as platters of wheaten bread. The menu was local smoked salmon, a soup course, chicken with vegetables, fruit crumble and tea or coffee. The musicians and players in full costume serve the meal and it is lots of fun with plenty of audience participation. A great evening of Irish fun in a unique setting. Much more accessible than Bunratty as a venue. Not cheap but we felt it was very good value for the four course meal with unlimited drink and several hours of non-stop entertainment. The team clearly care about their guests and want to give everyone a memorable evening, highly recommended.

The dinner was absolutely delicious and the show was professional quality. We arrived early and were greeted by wonderful ly kind staff who provided us with interesting facts we would never have known about the history of the land.

Good mead; good entertainment. I would have preferred a meal without utensils as they were not used in medieval times. The wait staff was efficient and cleared used dishes quickly.

Very nice event. Good was okay show was okay but the one at bunratty castle was better. Where we were seated didn’t have a good view.
