What To Expect
Chinese Fishing Nets
Chinese fishing nets(Cheena vala)are a type of stationary lift net in India. They are fishing nets that are fixed land installations for fishing. While commonly known as Chinese fishing nets in India, the more formal name for such nets is shore operated lift nets. Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20m or more across. Each structure is at least 10m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end which is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. While such nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina, in India they are mostly found in the Indian cities of Kochi and Kollam, where they have become a tourist attraction. This way of fishing is unusual in India and almost unique to the area, as it was introduced by Chinese explorers who landed there in the 14th century. Indeed, one interpretation of city name Kochi is ‘co-chin', meaning like China

5.00Very happy with the experience. Driver was good, didn’t drive like a race car driver and knew his way around. Was very accommodating to our requests. Also a newer Tuk tuk, much nicer!

5.00The best, kindest, friendliest Tuktuk tour, and a great price!! Ask for Sudhi, if you can!! We were so lucky to book Sudhi, for our Tuktuk tour - it really made our stay in Fort Cochin magical ❤️. He picked us up outside our hotel, and he took us around all the historic places, through the old town streets, through the market areas, to the famous churches and temples. He showed us the traditional laundry, and wandered around it with us. He knows the local people, and he talked with people everywhere we stopped. He helped us buy entry tickets (included in the Tuktuk tour price!!) and he told us his own personal stories about places! We asked to buy spices, honey, perfumes, tshirts, and he took us to the hidden places, where locals buy those things! He took photos of us, whenever we wanted ❤️ We were hot and tired at the end, and he took us to the cafe in the old town, that we fancied. The whole tour lasted about 4 hours - it was such good value!! So we made sure we gave Sudhi a decent tip, on top! We have photos and memories for ever, thanks to Sudhi's wonderful tour!!

5.00Took the tour with Sudhi, he was excellent, took us to loads of places.when we said we wanted a massage he took us to the place, then picked us up 2 hours later to take us to a show. Very nice man and cool tuk tuk called Jean Pierre😆

Because he has lived here for his entire life, he has the knowledge of where to explore and give the stories that tell of the sites and culture. We met several of the local people as he has friends everywhere it seems. You will not be disappointed riding with Sudhi!

5.00Ami is the best! We felt overwhelmed by all the various guides and vendors approaching us when we really just wanted to walk around to get our bearings. Ami was very gentle in his approach and made sure to design the tour to accommodate us—we weren’t very interested in shopping, but Ami had great recommendations for anything we needed, whether a pit stop for water/soda, a quick local lunch, or where to buy show tickets direct from a local. We felt like Ami was very focused on our experience and making it what we wanted, instead of trying to extract as much value as he could from us as guests. We highly recommend!!
