Donji Stoliv
Driving from Kotor toward Donji Stoliv reveals one of the most scenic coastal routes in Montenegro. The narrow waterfront road follows the curve of the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor, passing stone houses with terracotta roofs, small family docks, and traditional “konoba” restaurants known for fresh fish and local olive oil. Fishing boats line the calm bays, and the smell of pine and sea salt fills the air as the mountains rise sharply above the shoreline. Along the way, travelers see quiet villages, medieval churches, and old Venetian facades that reflect the region’s centuries of maritime history. Nature blends seamlessly with culture here: turquoise water on one side, forested hills and terraced gardens on the other. The peaceful atmosphere, authentic coastal scenery and constant sea views make the route to Donji Stoliv a perfect introduction to Montenegro’s rural life and its traditional connection to the sea.
From Donji Stoliv the tour heads uphill toward Gornji Stoliv, leaving the coast behind and entering a centuries-old chestnut forest. The paved road becomes a narrow gravel track, creating a mild off-road experience as the Jeep climbs through shaded woodland and mountain terraces. This private access route is rarely used by regular traffic, giving travelers an exclusive look at Montenegro’s rural interior. The scenery shifts from sea and boats to stone walls, orchards, and untouched nature, with only birds and wind in the trees breaking the silence. As the elevation increases, the Bay of Kotor opens below, revealing panoramic views of its coastline, villages, and dramatic limestone peaks. The ride ends at Gornji Stoliv, a hidden stone village preserved on the mountainside, where abandoned houses, old churches, and terraced gardens tell the story of life before coastal tourism. It is an authentic, peaceful setting far from crowds and main roads.

The drive along the coast to get to the road leading up to the hidden church was beautiful and the 4 wheel drive was fun and challenging. Our driver was very good at maneuvering the tight turns and rough terrain. The hike up to the church presented outstanding views over the bay. It was very interesting to see a well preserved church that was not easily accessible. After visiting the church we had a very lovely and relaxing time for some local snacks and drinks. We thoroughly enjoyed this activity and would recommend it to others.

I mistakenly booked a tour too far from where our cruise ship docked and I didn’t realize it until 2 hours before our tour. The tour group could have cancelled and kept our money but instead they arranged a wonderful alternative!! We had an amazing day in Bar with Duro (George), who met us at the port, took us to see the 2,000 year old olive tree and the Old City. He was so knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area. Then we went to a waterfall before he took us to a local restaurant where we seemed to be the only tourists. The food was delicious and affordable. I can’t say enough about how professional and accommodating he was, especially given the last minute plans. You can feel very confident in booking with this tour group and consider yourself blessed if you get a tour from Duro!

A delightful small group tour (only 4 of us plus guide) taking you up to a gorgeous semi-abandoned stone village. Absolutely beautiful views. Our guide Luka this was a skilled driver, knowledgeable and with an easy temperament, a pleasure to have as a guide. The snack /meal we had at the top was delightful. Some of the best bread I've ever had in my life, delicious prosciutto and cheese. Just beware they are Stone steps so you will need sturdy shoes + decent knees close top. I am tubby and unfit but I made it work, with a few stops to take a breath, but the view was worth it. I would do this any day over the crowded cable car.

This tour was a perfect escape from our cruise. The drive through the dense forest and hike to a small church was the escape we needed. The national food provided was excellent and the views from the local family’s patio were breathtaking. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and an excellent driver. This tour felt exclusive and truly a local experience.

I had an amazing time off-roading with Go Baloo! I was blown away by the views throughout the journey and the crew was super friendly. I wasn’t able to go on the first tour I booked, being a solo traveller, but Luka was very accommodating and offered a variety of different solutions to ensure I got to experience a tour. So glad I booked it, got to enjoy parts of the country I never would have been able to see on my own. Highly recommend the activity!

I took this tour during my cruise. If you’re wanting to see amazing views of Montenegro that you can only see with locals you’ll find it with this company. There are unexpected thrills with this tour as Montenegro has many steep and narrow roads. Their off road vehicles are put to the test and so is your anxiety if heights and cliffs bother you any. At every stop the views were breathtaking and beautiful. There was some hiking involved which I enjoyed. Personally I would not do this tour again, my nerves were shot by the end. It was too long and too scary. But I made sure to get as many videos and photos as this was truly a “once in a lifetime” experience, never to be repeated. Our guide was excellent.

This excursion was a blast! Andrea (or maybe Andreas) was awesome. We brought our mom who was clearly nervous about the tour and he was so patient. He is a native with deep roots in the area and was so open to share his culture with us. The tour culminates in a small village at the top of the mountain with only 4 permanent residents. There is a small (very old church) at the top that is still in operation and a local resident who feeds you homemade bread, Pomegranate juice, vegetables from his garden, and local cheese. As you sit on his deck, you can overlook the bay below and the view is stunning. Montenegro overall is just absolutely beautiful but this experience was really lovely. It was fun to be among locals and get a feel for their culture, history, politics, etc. Really awesome. Luka, the tour organizer was also awesome. So communicative! I hope to go back and spend more time with them all! One note, the jeep ride is quite steep but our guide was very skilled. Also wear sneakers

Chatting with our driver and learning about the history of this village was just the best. There were fantastic views from the top and a thrilling up and down hill ride on some very rough roads. Hard to believe some people live in such an inaccessible place. Pomegranate juice was a great new discovery and the homegrown tomatoes were delicious. Stanko our village host was fun to joke around with in a 3 way chat translated by our driver. All in all we had the best time and Andrijka? was soooo accommodating even making a special stop on the way back to Kotor at an antique shop and helping us to try and broker a deal. Sadly the deal didn’t go through but it wasn’t for lack of effort on his part.
