Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine
We are here to help you discover new things, the Fushimi Inari Shrine is so more than its famous tunnels of vermillion-red torii gates. Most people are satisfied by a scenic view of it. But this has a lot of stories to tell that will connect you to the Japan's history and culture and your guide will show you deeper. You will see a fascinating story attached to the origin of the shrine dedicated to the god of grains – that’s what “Inari” means – . This is also why you’ll see statues of the fox around the shrine. “Kitsune” or the fox is a servant to the god Inari. They are cunning tricksters, clever minded animals who make perfect guides for the treacherous business world. You may would want the foxes on your side after this tour.

We spent the day exploring Kyoto with Masa, and she made it one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan. We visited Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, and the Arashiyama bamboo forest — both stunning on their own, but Masa brought them to life in a way no guidebook ever could. What set her apart was her storytelling. She’s genuinely expressive and fun, and she has a gift for weaving history, legend, and local detail into something you actually remember. Standing in front of the Golden Pavilion while she explained its story, and walking through the towering bamboo as she talked us through it, turned a sightseeing day into something memorable. One small heads-up for future travelers: there was a discrepancy between the start time listed on Viator and the time the tour company had on file, so it’s worth confirming your time directly with the operator ahead of the day. To their credit, they sorted it out quickly and easily, and it didn’t take anything away from the experience. Knowledgeable, warm, and a joy to spend the day with. If you’re visiting Kyoto, ask for Masa — you won’t regret it. Thank you for an amazing day.

We had a tour with Kazuo - he was very friendly, welcoming and polite - with good communication ahead of the tour to make sure we made the most of our time together. We saw lots, and had a great time. Thanks Kazuo!

Etsuko was an exceptional tour guide. She catered our tour to what we were hoping to see and was so knowledgeable. We feel like we wouldn't have been able to see the parts of Kyoto we did without her.

Emika was a very gracious host in her home. So enjoyable and the sushi, miso soup, pickles and sweet food was delicious. We also shared cross cultural experiences. So pleased we found Emika on Trip Advisor.

Our guide was very kind and polite, and she also helped take photos for us, which we appreciated. However, the tour itself was unfortunately quite underwhelming, especially for the price. Most explanations were extremely brief and basic, and we did not learn much about Kyoto’s history, culture, temples, or traditions. At times it felt more like walking around the city with someone accompanying us rather than having a true guided experience. Communication in English was also somewhat difficult, and we ended the tour early because there was not much additional information being shared. While the guide herself was sweet, overall we did not feel the tour provided good value for a private guided experience.

Two of us had Yasunas a guide and we had a fabulous time. We had mobility limitations so needed to avoid too much walking and too many stairs. Yasu prepared a thoughtful itinerary and was in contact with us beforehand to confirm it. We also adapted it on the day. Taxi's between places meant the walking we had was well manageable. Highly recommend Yasu as a guide, so thoughtful and very knowledgeable.

We could not have got around Kyoto in the short time we had (day trip) without Joy. She was amazingly knowledgeable, and spoke very good English. We posed various questions which she researched and got back to us after doing her own research and communicated with us after our return to the US. Joy definitely deserves a 5 star rating.

Yuri took us to Uji and Gion. She taught us about the geiko and mako culture. Yuri educated us about the differences hryeeen the Buddhist and Shinto religions. She went into detail about green tea - how it’s made, when it’s made and the different types of tea. Yuri is pleasant, explains clearly and was a joy to be with. We are so happy to have had her guide us around Gion and Uji! Thank you Yuri!
