It is said that this building was built with the image of the Pure Land. Its beauty is breathtaking. In addition, the 600-year-old pine tree called "Rokushumatsu" is one of the three most famous pines in Kyoto and symbolizes a boat heading to the Pure Land. It is also a typical Japanese Zen garden.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine
"Fushimi Inari Taisha: Kyoto's Famous Shrine of Thousand Torii Gates Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of Kyoto’s most famous and spiritual landmarks, well-known for its thousands of torii gates that lead visitors up the slopes of Mount Inari. Dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice, agriculture, and prosperity, Fushimi Inari Taisha is a significant site for both spiritual pilgrims and travelers looking to experience Japan’s unique blend of nature and religion. The shrine complex is popular for its long, winding paths lined with vibrant red torii gates, known as Senbon Torii (""thousand torii gates""). These gates create a stunning corridor that stretches for over 4 kilometers up the mountain, offering a picturesque journey. Each gate is a donation from individuals or businesses, with the donor’s name and the date on the back. It takes about 2-3 hours to hike at the summit of Mount Inari, but smaller shrines and resting spots along the way provide a peaceful and rewarding journey.

What an amazing day we spent seeing many of the unforgettable sights in Kyoto. Keiko Masuda, our guide, met us at our hotel and went over the day’s plan. She was incredibly well prepared with visuals showing the temples, shrines and Japanese history we were about to witness first hand in the temples of the Shoguns and Emperors… She has a great sense of history, and humor. The day went too quickly (!) and was truly a highlight of our trip to Kyoto, and Japan. I cannot recommend her, and her tour, highly enough. Also, take taxis and cable cars… you can cover more ground and see the neighborhoods between sites. What a culture, what a country! Thank you Keiko for making it come alive for us!! Aragato!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Takuma Goda of Japan Wonder Tours. With his excellent English, he balanced the right amount of history and background with giving us time to absorb the culture and sights. Kyoto is too important a cultural gem to leave it to chance. Go with a pro. As a bonus, he’s also an excellent photographer.

We had a wonderful customized tour of Kyoto with Toshiya "Tossy" Yamada. We requested a gentle pace for an elderly family member, and Tossy designed the perfect itinerary. He was incredibly well-prepared, using graphics and clear explanations of Japanese culture and history that truly enriched our visit. The tour itself brilliantly contrasted the iconic, bustling Kinkaku-ji with the beautiful tranquility of Ninnaji Temple. It allowed us to appreciate both sides of Kyoto. Tossy was attentive to our needs, ensuring everyone enjoyed the tour at a comfortable pace. We can't recommend him highly enough for a thoughtful and knowledgeable guide!

Mitsuhiko Seiyama-San was a great guide. He contacted us in advance with some suggested sites to visit, listened to what we wanted to do and put a super itinerary together. We used taxis to get between some sites as it saved time, making it easier to fit more in, and was less tiring than doing everything with public transport. He was knowledgeable and friendly and we had a great day.

Kenta gave us a great tour! We wanted to make the most of the day without being rushed, particularly since our 2 young daughters were with us, so we opted for the 8 hr private tour. I had put together an itinerary and Kenta added in some additional places which was great. Thank you so much for a fantastic day!
