Excellent tour with great anecdotes, a beautiful walking route, and fascinating history. Coming from an ex-tour guide, Daniel was one of the best tour guides I’ve had. He was full of enthusiasm, always took time to answer questions, and made sure everyone was happy. His English was also very strong. Would do it again if I could! Highly recommend.

We ate dinner a short 3-minute walk from the meeting place, listed as Ben’s Cookies. We used Google Maps as there was no set address and no other information in the description of the meeting place. Google took us more than a block away and said “Arrived!” No “Ben’s Cookies.” We wandered around a three block area for 15 minutes, asking people, texting the tour leader. We never got an answer. So we moved on to the next three places listed on the itinerary. Asked every tour leader we saw, but we saw no Viator group. We never heard anything back from this business until the next day, after our complaint - when we were offered a time two days later. Nope. This business took our $60, and did not do the bare minimum: 1) provide an address and description of meeting place 2) warn paying guests not to use Google Maps 3) relay communication about where to meet the group. This is a business that should be avoided. I’ve been on dozens of tours, and have never once been late - but the fact is that tourists get lost and people are sometimes late. Every reputable tour business knows this and PLANS for this. The fact that this tour leader disregarded our texts in the first minutes is bad enough. But then this tour leader continued without even taking ten seconds to attempt to connect with us - and then seemed to have visited places not listed on the itinerary is worse. This is not a reputable business. Plenty of Gion tours out there. Skip this one.

What a fabulous tour experience of the Gion district! Melanie was organized, passionate, and knowledgeable! We learned more about the history and art of the Geisha (Geiko) that we ever anticipated! And after the tour she gave us a dinner recommendation of an amazing local Ramen restaurant! What a great end of a long day!! Would highly recommend taking a tour with Melanie.
