What To Expect

In this program, you can enjoy a tea ceremony experience while wearing a kimono. First, choose a kimono with your favorite color and pattern from the rich kimono collection in Nishijin, Kyoto. We will help you with your hair set before putting on your kimono. After that, you will have a simple photo shoot and then enjoy the tea ceremony experience with a master. Our tea room has been used for three generations. It is located near Daitoku-ji Temple, a place deeply rooted in Japanese tea culture. It's a bit old, but we'll do our best to help alleviate the fatigue from your trip to Japan. First, a tea master who has studied tea ceremonies for 30 years will show you the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. After having a cup of tea with seasonal sweets, you will learn about the history and etiquette of the ceremony, and even have the chance to prepare your tea. Why don't you share a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime time with the tea master?

Was the best. From beginning to end. Experience of dressing up in kimono and participating in tea ceremony was magical. Even my teenage boys loved it. Highly recommend if in Japan. Mera (sorry if spelt incorrectly) was so informative and attentive. Thank you!

If you have never done a formal tea tasting or dressed in traditional Japanese clothing, this is a must do experience!! Great photo ops, delicious matcha tea, great explanations of everything, overall a great experience! My only complaint was it was a little hard to find because the directions from the address they gave us in the email when plugged into Apple Maps took us to the wrong location. But if you read the email, the description of being next to the dog and cat hospital got us these.

Highly recommend. I did this with my family because my grandmother has always wanted to do a traditional tea ceremony. We were all able to dress in beautiful Kimono's, they styled our hair, helped us take pictures, and then led a group tea ceremony where one person from the group was able to make the tea themselves at the end. Could not recommend enough, amazing experience.

12/10! Such a beautiful experience and honestly a highlight of our trip. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the ceremony felt truly authentic and special, not touristy at all. They took their time explaining everything, answer questions, & take pictures. They’re were so thoughtful & even sent us home with a beautiful gift since we were on our honeymoon. You could really feel the care and heart behind the experience would recommend to anyone visiting Japan. Thank you again!

This tea ceremony was such a lovely experience. We were dressed in kimono and our hair was done super efficiently (I recommend having an idea of what color you want to wear because they ask you which one you like and waste no time!). Once we were dressed, the host took us into a room and talked us through posing and took lots of pictures for us. I wasn't expecting that, but it was great! He also translated and explained everything the tea master did during the tea ceremony, as well as providing historical context. It was really beautiful and calming. Every movement is so considered and nothing is rushed. We got to enjoy a cup of tea and two traditional sweets. Our tea ceremony had 5 groups of 2-3 people and one person from each group got to go up and make the tea with the tea master's guidance. A little daunting, but ultimately very fun! It was such a unique experience, and I'm deeply grateful that they are willing to share this experience with tourists. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto! Thank you!

This was a lovely experience. Getting dressed in a kimono and taking part in a traditional tea ceremony made the event feel special and authentic. It was a beautiful way to get a bit of understanding for Japanese culture, and I recommend taking part in one.
