This program offers far more than a simple cultural experience. The tea ceremony instructors who lead the session have dedicated many years to the study and practice of traditional tea ceremony culture. They not only provide clear explanations of the aspects of the tea ceremony that guests wish to learn about, but also offer in‑depth insights into various elements of Japanese culture as a whole. Participants will receive direct guidance on how to appreciate and enjoy the authentic spirit of the tea ceremony.
In addition, guests may enjoy the experience while wearing a traditional kimono. You will first select a kimono in your preferred color and pattern from our extensive Nishijin collection in Kyoto. Before dressing, our staff will assist with a simple hair arrangement. Following the kimono dressing, a brief photo session will be conducted.

This program offers guests the opportunity to enjoy an authentic tea ceremony while dressed in a traditional kimono. You will begin by selecting a kimono in your preferred color and pattern from our extensive Nishijin collection in Kyoto. Before dressing, our staff will assist you with a simple hair arrangement. Afterward, a brief photo session will be conducted, followed by the tea ceremony experience with a master. Our tea room, cherished and used for three generations, is located near Daitokuji Temple—an area deeply connected to the history and spirit of Japanese tea culture. Although the building is modest and carries the character of its age, we strive to ensure that your time with us provides comfort and a moment of rest during your travels in Japan. A tea master with over 30 years of experience will first demonstrate the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. After enjoying a bowl of matcha accompanied by seasonal sweets, you will learn about the history, etiquette, and philosophy of the tea ceremony. You will also have the opportunity to prepare your own tea under the master’s guidance. We warmly invite you to share this once‑in‑a‑lifetime cultural moment with the tea master

My daughter (age 10) and I did this experience together. We were welcomed into a traditional Japanese home where the first floor we were greeted and went into a room where we got to chose from many different kimono fabrics. They had 4-5 choices for my daughter and many more choices for myself. Once we chose our fabrics we were dressed by two Japanese women for the next 15 mins into our Kimonos and our hair was done complete with clips and flower accessories. We then took pictures in a traditional tea room and the host took tons of pictures of us that all turned out great. Last we went upstairs for a 30-40 min tea ceremony with our tea master. We learned how to make matcha, got to taste matcha and even got to make it ourselves. The host was very attentive and energetic with lots of explanations about the tea ceremony experience. We learned a lot and got to ask a lot of questions. Everyone was very polite and friendly. A great cultural experience with beautiful pictures as well!

My family had a fantastic experience here. We accidentally showed up on the wrong day and the staff was able to accommodate us, and we were so grateful! So worthwhile to be a little bit off of the beaten path. Our interpreter also gave us great recommendations for local ramen. Would recommend this experience to everyone!

This was a very educational and relaxing experience. My wife and daughter loved dressing up in the kimonos and getting their pictures taken for free. The entire team was very patient and kind, and demonstrated a great passion for teaching westerners their culture. It was interesting enough to keep my six-year-old daughter, quietly engaged for the one and a half hour duration. They were extremely generous, and even gave her small prizes for her participation. I could not recommend them more!

We loved this experience. From the kimono dressing experience to the actual tea ceremony, this was a great day. We have so much more respect for the what goes into the meditation and actual tea ceremony itself. The translator and tea master were both amazing and we learned a lot. Highly recommended.

Was the best. From beginning to end. Experience of dressing up in kimono and participating in tea ceremony was magical. Even my teenage boys loved it. Highly recommend if in Japan. Mera (sorry if spelt incorrectly) was so informative and attentive. Thank you!

If you have never done a formal tea tasting or dressed in traditional Japanese clothing, this is a must do experience!! Great photo ops, delicious matcha tea, great explanations of everything, overall a great experience! My only complaint was it was a little hard to find because the directions from the address they gave us in the email when plugged into Apple Maps took us to the wrong location. But if you read the email, the description of being next to the dog and cat hospital got us these.

Highly recommend. I did this with my family because my grandmother has always wanted to do a traditional tea ceremony. We were all able to dress in beautiful Kimono's, they styled our hair, helped us take pictures, and then led a group tea ceremony where one person from the group was able to make the tea themselves at the end. Could not recommend enough, amazing experience.
