We will shuttle 30 minutes outside Antigua through the town of Parramos and the small village of Chirijuyu to meet our trailhead. From there we begin an introductory climb followed by a 3km jeep track descent through coffee and avocado plantations. We will ride smooth trails through agricultural operations and then cross the rustic town of San Andres Itzapa. From there we will start our second climb (4km) up through the town on paved and cobble stoned roads before entering a pine forest at 1900m (6,400ft). Crossing a small ravine

will bring us to a smooth descent and fast singletrack through pine trees. This will exit into the plains of Parramos crossing fields of corn, fruit, beans and greenhouses as you wind along agricultural singletrack. The final descent follows 500+ year old trails that have been eroded into tunnels of tight twisty fun. Exit in the town of Pastores and cycle the gradual paved downhill back to Antigua!

  • All the fun without all the work!

This is an excellent ride. I did this ride twice over the past month each with one of my adult children. David is a fantastic guide - knowledgable, fun and willing to follow our interests. While some of the downhill sections were challenging, they were doable even for us beginners. The ride requires a good deal of fitness and strong overall biking skills but the sights, and cultural points of interest are worth the effort and most of the ride is relatively easy flat land riding through fields and small towns. Iglesia San Simon in San Andres Itzapa is a cultural wonder, a mayan ritual center in a 'church'. We ending the ride on the outskirts of Antigua with Ceviche and Michiladas. Overall, this is a superfun ride with very little work mainly because they bring you up 1500 feet and then you get to ride down!

My partner and I both enjoyed this ride around San Andres Itzapa and back through Pastores and Jocotenango. Our guide, Pepian, was world class! He is a very strong mountain biker and did a great job leading me (a newbie) and my partner (an experienced MTBer). His English was excellent and he was very knowledgeable about the region. The ride itself was very fun with just the right amount of challenge.

Chris, Matt, and the crew at Old Town are world class! Their local knowledge and eagerness to go above and beyond really just took our trip to the next level. I would 100% recomend reaching out to them if you're considering going to Guatemala. Your trip will be that much better because of it.

Will is a good guide, i enjoyed his company. The bike provided was too small. With the seat raised to the max, it was too low by a couple inches and this wasn’t discovered till we were at the ride start. I assumed providing my height on the registration form would get me a bike of sufficient size to adjust the seat to the proper height. Also, the difficulty is underrated. I can’t imagine a beginner handling the technical sections of the ride. The physical demands are also probably well beyond a beginner. The climbs would be too long and hard for a beginner because of the altitude starting at 5,000 feet and gaining about 1,000 more.

  • More than a Great MTB ride with David

What a great morning. We drove about 30 minutes out of Antigua into the hills. David was a great guide. He helped set my bike up. I brought my own pedals. It was As much a tour as a great ride. Lots of single track downhill with stops to learn about the culture, agriculture, we even stopped at a church to see the blend of Mayan religion and the Catholic religion. We ended the ride through Antigua. I highly recommend this trip and old town.
