Want to see what's underneath all the lava in Iceland? Then join us and explore the hidden world of the lava fields at The End of the Road, Leidarendi Cave. Leidarendi is a pitch black, 900 meter long circular lava tube, showcasing lava formations such as stalactites and stalagmites, along with surprising colors. A lava tube is created after a volcanic eruption when the lava has hardened on the surface, but magma still flows underneath. When the flow of lava ceases and the rocks cool down, a long hollow cave is formed - this natural wonder is called a lava tube.
Leidarendi is less visited than other lava tubes is because of its structure inside. It is not a cave that has proper wooden planks for walking on therefore good sturdy hiking boots are recommended. It has some optional areas where you can crawl through allowing for a more adventurous visit but there are other areas that are accessible for and easier journey and yet end up at the same place, making it a loose figure of 8.

A great little trip close to Reykjavik. Our guide Gretar was very knowledgeable and taught us a ton about volcanoes and lava tubes. It's a little claustrophobic sometimes, but the colors below are worth it. It was a physical experience, with climbing and crawling. So glad we were able to do this.

The pace was good for a varied group of all capabilities and the return with the tightest gap (not that bad) was optional. If you’re very tall it might be a little tough to be slouched over in some spots. Don’t leave anything behind!

It is difficult to walk inside the cave as the ceiling is very low. You have to crawl many times. It’s a good experience to see the lava cave.

Amazing natural lava caves. Our tour guide was great too. We took our 70 yr old parents and it was ok. They skipped a crawling section but the rest was ok for them.

Voeran our transfer guide was amazing. He told us all the history about iceland and was very knowledgeable. He then linked it to the lava tunnel so we knew all the background information before thing part. The lava tunnel and tour guide in the cave was also good. Over all really enjoyed the experience. Can't wait to come back!

The tour of the tunnel was longer then expected (which is good). Guide (Luis, sorry if I misspelled) was very friendly and funny, but professional, and was quite informative about the cave/tunnel. The cave, by itself, is natural, very interesting and unique. We enjoyed the tour very much.
