The Legong Kraton is a stylized dance featuring three dancers— a court attendant and two legongs portraying royal figures— set to the evocative sounds of the gamelan orchestra. The story, inspired by 12th-13th century East Java, follows a king who locks Rangkesari in a stone house, prompting her brother, the Prince of Daha, to threaten war unless she is freed. Rangkesari pleads for her release to avoid conflict, but the king chooses battle. On his way to war, he encounters a bird that predicts his death, a dramatic moment portrayed in the dance.

Supremely beautiful!! An experience you should not miss. Up there with the great things in life, like the Louvre etc! It’s classical. Each dancer has dedicated his or her life to this art. How many hours of hard work from childhood onwards!!

It is very Nice to see. But you have to go about 1 hour before to have a good place to sit. The costumes are very beautyfull, but you have to like the music.

Cultural dance that is well worth seeing. Reasonable entry price. The dancing goes on for 1.5 hours which is 30mins too long if you have small children they will get bored.

They sell about 3x more tickets than there are seats available and so in the end people pile up everywhere and we don’t see anything...

Stunning display of great Balinese dancing and beautiful Ubud palace setting. Come early as it fills up quickly. We took the opportunity to be there an hour early and had almost front row seats, opportunity to buy soft drinks or beer on location.

The Legong Trance and Paradise Dance at Ubud Palace was a wonderful experience to watch. We went there on our first day in Ubud and the performance left a good impression on us about the cultural heritage of Bali. However, it could be made better with less tickets being sold since the sitting space is very limited and they get people to sit nearly anywhere possible. And the other thing which we missed was any background narration to help understand the acts better.

This was a beautiful performance that was illustrative of the culture. It’s a great way to see the unique subtle qualities of their dance. The costumes were so lovely and the music powerful. The only down side is the seating is remarkably uncomfortable. Because you have to get there early to get a good seat, I suggest grabbing the seat but don’t just sit. We walked through the U of palace afterwards so it was a two for one experience. Definitely worth the price.

The journey to the Legong Trance and Paradise Dance performance at Ubud Palace begins in early evening chaos - navigating through Ubud's crowded streets with persistent ticket sellers (just buy at the entrance, easier). While the venue's seating isn't particularly comfortable, arriving 15 minutes early secured us decent mid-way seats. Once the performance began, all external distractions faded away. The live musicians created a mesmerizing backdrop for the dancers, whose technical skill and grace were absolutely captivating. The Thursday program offered a wonderful sampling of different traditional dances: Legong Trance, Jauk, Lencana Agung Ubud, Kebyar Trompong, and the Ballet of Bimaniu. The elaborate costumes and artistic execution were truly impressive - beautiful and enchanting in every detail. Despite the somewhat chaotic beginning in bustling Ubud, the show itself was fantastic and well worth experiencing. We left very satisfied and would gladly attend again.
