  I honestly don’t think the price of this tour reflects its true value the experience was truly priceless. Chester, his wife, and their two kids made learning the history of Singapore fun and engaging. As an Indonesian, it was heartwarming to see that the bond between our countries goes beyond just being geographically close — it’s also close at heart. I also learned that Singapore’s “red dot” nickname actually came from something BJ Habibie said — who knew? The Singaporean government clearly cares about its people. Public facilities don’t just build structures they create spaces that connect communities. Even the HDB housing is thoughtfully designed for the elderly. Do yourself a favor and book a tour with Chester and his family. His kids meet people from all over the world, and you’ll come away with knowledge, fun memories, and a deeper appreciation for Singapore and its trees!

  Chester and his son greeted us warmly in a huge park in the West of Singapore - a 20+ minute taxi ride from Clarke Quay. They then took us on a truly informative and fun tour of their Jurong neighbourhood. We learned so much about the history and traditions of the area and Singapore, all from this lovely man and his family. We met up with his wife and daughter for traditionally made coffee, and ate sweet waffles made fresh at a local bakery. They found fun ways to teach and share with my partner and I all about Singapore and its story, as a small red dot and well functioning microcosm on the map next to Malaysia.   I had a great time spending the morning seeing and learning about how a typical Singaporean family lives. You won’t find many tourists along this tour and for me that was exactly what I was looking for.

  What a delightful morning spent with Chester learning about his corner of Singapore. We were exposed to history and what current life is like for the average working class family on the island. We walked through public housing, standard and wet markets, and enjoyed local tea, coffee and chilled specialty drinks. We also had the privilege of meeting his family. This is a cultural tour that is well worth your time.

  Fantastic to see another side of Singapore, communication was fantastic before and after and Chester and his family went out of their way to accommodate us. Truly a highlight of our visit to Singapore, strongly recommend to anyone.

  It is a valuable experience to learn about local life. In addition, the tour guide is very knowledgeable and can give accurate answers to questions from various angles, so this tour is especially recommended for those who want to know more about local life.

  Chester (gray shirt guy), his wife Wen Tong, and their children were excellent guides! We learned so much about local culture, way of life, habits, societal mindset, and their values. They were all very informative and added their own character and important information to the tour. We really felt like we got a well-rounded look at the different aspects of their lives with great history lesson additions. The lesson about local vendor ordering of tea was really interesting. We figured the tour would be good based on what we read and how well Chester communicated with us ahead of time, but it exceeded our expectations. By the end, it felt like we were almost talking with old friends. We would highly recommend the tour and a trip to the gardens nearby afterwards as a combo.

• A unique opportunity to learn more about life in Singapore

  We can only echo what other reviewers have commented about this trip. It was the highlight of our 4 days in Singapore and a wonderful chance to see and learn more about the country. We spent 4 hours with Chester and his family, where they showed us around their local neighbourhood. It was a real privilege to be given the chance to spend time with this wonderful family who so generously provided their time and shared their knowledge about the Jurong area. We also very much enjoyed playing a game which taught us how to order coffee in their local language at their neighbourhood café. We even managed to order the right drink 😊 Chester is a dedicated teaching professional who was able to share his knowledge and passion about Singapore. He provided a great overview of the history of the local area and patiently answered all of our questions. We had a wonderful time comparing our respective cultures. Chester was also providing detailed instructions of how to get to the meeting point and even sent us links to other cultural events in Singapore, which was off the usual tourist track. We took the super-efficient MRT to Lakeside station and had a lovely walk through Jurong Lake Gardens on the way to the meeting point. It was also fascinating to see the area from the train with the huge numbers of tower blocks. Overall we were hugely impressed by this trip and absolutely loved safe, beautiful Singapore. Chester and family - we would like to reiterate our invite to visit us in Northern Ireland if you get the chance and we will show you around our little country. You certainly did your country proud!
