From Paris, you’ll head first to Chambord Castle. Disney fans will find this castle’s turrets familiar; it was the inspiration for the castle in ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Though originally conceived as a royal hunting lodge, it was built to a scale that must be seen to be believed. You’ll learn all about the castle’s captivating history from your guide, before getting your own chance to explore. Climb a staircase supposedly designed by Da Vinci; enjoy spectacular turret-framed rooftop views; glimpse wild deer around the grounds; and work up an appetite for the next stop.

3.00The description of the tour needs to be revised to indicate more details. This tour had 50 people on a bus with very small seats. I am 5'3 and my knees were jammed into the seat in front of me. My poor husband is 6'0 so his experience was very difficult. The guide Raymond had an accent that made the dialogue difficult to understand. He did have lots of history to relay about the chateau. There is a considerable amount of walking on this tour, including stairs. We had some elderly folks who were hurried along by the guide. The free time in Blois was nonexistent. We had to walk a long distance to lunch at the recommended restaurant and had about an hour to eat. Then there was a long walk back to the bus. We did have ample time to explore both chateau. I would recommend more bathroom breaks as they were not accounted for in the schedule. The complimentary wine is not a traditional tasting. There were 3 pours while we stood in a cave and learned some info about them. All in all, it was interesting but the 3.5 hour ride back to Paris in the tiny bus seat was an unpleasant end to a long day. We left at 7:30 am and returned at 8pm.

5.00Daniel was a kind, patient, and well-informed tour guide. The tour was very smooth despite a busy schedule and we felt every place we stopped was gorgeous. Heads up: this tour leaves right on time.

2.00The guide did a poor job. The sites were very nice. English is obviously not the guide’s first language. The guide walked away from the group, paying little attention to those who struggled to keep up. The guide crossed a busy road without cautioning guests and continued to walk, oblivious the guests who were almost struck by oncoming cars. Only after a cautioning by a guest did she seem to pay attention to the guests who were falling far behind. All-in-all, not on par with other tours taken during our 14 day visit to France.
