Chateau de Chambord
From Paris, you’ll head first to Chambord Castle. Disney fans will find this castle’s turrets familiar; it was the inspiration for the castle in ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Though originally conceived as a royal hunting lodge, it was built to a scale that must be seen to be believed. You’ll learn all about the castle’s captivating history from your guide, before getting your own chance to explore. Climb a staircase supposedly designed by Da Vinci; enjoy spectacular turret-framed rooftop views; glimpse wild deer around the grounds; and work up an appetite for the next stop.

The castles are stunning and the town of Blois charming. I am so happy to have been able to see such significant sights. Our guides were very sweet and took great care of us… the historical narratives on the bus were, at times, difficult to understand though. The not so great aspects of this trip are that it is an extremely long day, and the seats are terribly uncomfortable, primarily because they are so tight (my knees hit the back of the seat in front of me and I’m only 5’5” ) A different bus would be helpful. Also be aware that there is quite a bit of walking and stair climbing

Despite the fine efforts of our tour guides, they were unable to overcome the very early start, four hours on the bus (down and back), pouring rain and our self guided walks through the two chateaus. Our two hour busy lunch in Blois did not leave any time to check out the town, which looked kind of neat. If we were to do it again, we would skip the restaurant and just pick up some take out and leave time to explore. While the all day rain made it tough to enjoy the chateau gardens, I don’t think a sunny day could overcome the other issues mentioned above. Perhaps if our guides were able to walk our group into the chateaus and narrated along the way, it would have given us a better overview rather the summary provided on the bus. In any event, we wound up wondering if the 13 hours spent on this tour could have been better spent seeing other sights in Paris. Again, this is not to detract from the quality of our tour guides…they were fine. It’s mainly the time spent to see two Chateaus.

I had a wonderful time on this full day tour to the Loire Valley area of France. I boarded the bus at 7:15 for the 7:30am departure. It took a couple hours to get to the first castle. Chateau de Chambord historic French Renaissance castle was an astounding sight. Built under King Francis the first is a massive 440 room structure. It housed the most iconic art from the Louvre from 1939-1945 including the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. We spent almost 2 hours there. We then boarded the bus and went to the historic city of Blois. We were able to spend almost two hours there to have lunch and sightseeing. I enjoyed a nice Salmon Salad at Mimosa Restaurant. We then boarded the bus to Chateau de Chenonceau. Another stunning Renaissance and Gothic architecture and stunning gardens. We also enjoyed a wine tasting of three different wines actually grown on the estate. Our travel guide was very nice and informative on the bus. These fairy like castles were truly a mesmerizing experience.

Great tour! Enjoyed exploring the chateaus and also the wine tasting. Our tour guide John was also very good and provided a lot of information about the chateaus and the town of Blois.

We had enough time at Chambord and Cheninceau. We enjoyed the commentary provided by the guide on the way there. They were lovely castles with good views and the scenery on the drive was beautiful, but the experience of visiting the castles didn’t compare to the grand Versailles chateau. We stopped in Blois for lunch and were taken to a restaurant by our guide. I ordered the chicken burger and fries. It was overpriced and possibly the worst meal I have ever had. The staff were abrupt and the waitresses were confused about what they were actually serving. If I’d known, I would have preferred to have picked up a quick bite from another eatery and used the break to explore the town. That part of the tour felt like a waste of time.
