Discover the main masterpieces of the Louvre Museum and its history. Did you know that the Louvre was a fortress before being a museum? You will discover the great sphinx of Tanis, an opportunity to mention the strong links between Egypt and Paris. Then you will visit the department of Greek antiquities. Your guide will tell you some stories from mythology in the beautiful Caryatides room (old ballroom of the castle). In the Italian gallery (800 meter long) you will admire the masterpieces of the Italian masters: Mantegna, Raphael, Caravaggio, Veronese ... Of course you will also see the Mona Lisa by Leonard. In the French department, you will see large paintings such as the "Sacre de Napoleon" or "La Mort de Sardanapale". They are bigger than many appartments in Paris... The tour will also include the impressive sculptures of Mesopotamia such as the Khorsabad Bulls or the Hammurabi code. The Dutch department with its Rubens, Vermeer and Rembrandt is less crowded and quite exceptional also.
